We had a productive strategic planning session with our Community Advisory Committee (CAC) earlier this month! Our CAC gives the community a voice in its choice of electricity services, clean energy resource investments, and local energy projects, acting as a liaison between key stakeholders and our Board, and holding regular public committee meetings. The Utility Regulator NI has published its Final Determination on NIE Networks' Investment Plan for the Regulatory Period 7 (RP7). Over the next six years we will undertake capital construction on the electricity network which will be double the scale of anything we’ve done before. This essential investment will upgrade network reliability, facilitate increased renewable generation and provide sufficient network capacity to support individuals, homes and businesses to reduce their use of fossil fuels. Watch this video with Derek Hynes, Managing Director of NIE Networks, as he reflects on the scale of the plan.

A very informative select committee hearing. Thanks Emma Floyd and Juergen Maier CBE FRS FREng I am glad I listened because I had to give a presentation on Great British Energy at the Montel UK Energy Day, and I have to admit that I was struggling a bit. There was a lot more clarity in this 1 hour session than I had heard to date. There was also a good balance between obvious enthusiasm and also a bit of a reality check. GB Energy isn't going to reduce bills by £300, or create 650,000 jobs or solve the UK skills gap. At least not by itself, it is just a (key) part of a wider energy transition. Highlights for me... 👍 GB Energy will be a "Champion" Energy Company for UK. It's an energy company not a bank or grant funder. 👍 It will be more like Orsted than EDF, more entrepreneurial, but actually not quite like Orsted because it is starting from scratch and will focus on emerging, but scalable, technologies 👍 It will operate as an independent arms length company with its own board and investment policies - but the reality is that there will be one shareholder who will always have a final say. 👍 To start GBE will work with the National Wealth Fund - that's a good idea! They are not bad. Peter Clifton 👍 It will aim to make a profit "across the portfolio" balancing risk with the need to generate a return 👍 It will start by taking minority equity stakes in strategic projects 👍 Community and local energy isn't a bolt on. In fact it could provide some "quick wins". 👍 Scalable "Community Energy in a Box" - I won't say this is original but it deserves another look. Regen would be happy to provide input. Questions remain .... ❔ How and where will GB Energy get the resource and capability it needs? ❔ Will it be hamstrung by Treasury? ❔ Relationship with The Crown Estate
Great to be with Great British Energy Chair, Juergen Maier CBE FRS FREng, today talking to the Energy Security and Net Zero Select Committee about the latest on setting up this new publicly owned and independently led energy company. https://lnkd.in/e7F3Rv-H

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)'s Clean Energy to Communities program is preparing to open requests for proposals (RFPs) for its next round of in-depth partnerships. Through this three-year program, teams of staff from local governments, utilities, and community-based organizations will work with experts at NREL and other national laboratories to test and validate energy solutions before deploying clean energy technology. Six communities across the country are already engaged in in-depth partnerships, and your community could join them. Learn more about the types of projects and teams eligible for this program as the RFP opens on April 1: https://bit.ly/3K2XRAW
