A total of 100 tonnes of mass-balanced liquefied biomethane was supplied by Shell to CMA CGM’s liquefied natural gas-powered containership CMA CGM TIVOLI. Produced from waste-based feedstock, the liquefied bio-methane used in this pilot provides a lower-emission alternative to conventional marine fuels. This initiative supports the GDSC’s broader commitment to advancing the adoption of near-zero emission fuels along one of the world’s busiest shipping trade routes. As part of the pilot, Shell issued a Proof of Sustainability certificate verifying that the liquefied bio-methane fuel supplied complies with regulations by the European Union. The certificate will undergo auditing by third-parties accredited by International Sustainability and Carbon Certification-European Union (ISCC-EU). A similar liquefied bio-methane bunkering pilot with full sustainability certification is planned at the Port of Singapore. #portofrotterdam #portofsingapore #energytransition #bunkering

Imagine a world where ships navigate designated routes with zero or minimal CO₂ emissions. This vision is becoming a reality with green shipping corridors—innovative maritime routes where vessels rely on alternative fuels like ammonia or methanol, supporting global efforts to decarbonize maritime transport. The Port of Rotterdam and the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) have once again demonstrated that sustainability and innovation go hand in hand. Their initiative to establish the first long-distance green corridor marks a significant milestone in eco-friendly maritime transport. Why is monitoring critical for such projects? 📡 Enhanced Safety on Route CCTV systems allow real-time observation of the ship’s surroundings, particularly crucial for handling eco-friendly fuels that require precise management and safe storage. ⚓ Oversight of Loading and Unloading Operations Cameras provide a detailed record of every transport phase, ensuring compliance with international regulations and enhancing operational transparency. 🌱 Support for Eco-Certification Processes Real-time recording of operations facilitates verification of compliance with environmental standards, essential for green corridors’ functionality. Innovation in sustainable maritime transport is not only about reducing emissions but also about increasing safety and operational efficiency. Ports like Rotterdam and Singapore showcase that the future of shipping can be both green and secure, with the support of modern technologies like CCTV monitoring. Are you ready to implement monitoring on your vessel? Share your thoughts in the comments! 🌍 FuelEU Maritime Compliance Pooling: A New Financial Strategy for Maritime Decarbonization 🌍 The FuelEU Maritime regulation introduces a practical approach for the shipping industry to meet ambitious decarbonization targets while navigating compliance costs. One key feature of this regulation is the compliance pooling mechanism, which offers ship operators a flexible, cost-effective method to manage their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions intensity. What is Compliance Pooling? Starting from 2025, the FuelEU Maritime regulation mandates that vessels over 5,000 GT operating between EU ports must gradually reduce their GHG intensity. Ships that exceed these targets (over-compilers) can share their surplus GHG reductions with those underachieving (non-compliers) within a pool, allowing them to collectively meet the compliance requirements Benefits of the Pooling Mechanism Economic Efficiency: Pooling enables shipping companies to trade surplus compliance units, creating a market-like mechanism where compliant ships can balance out non-compliant ones. This reduces penalties and encourages investments in low-carbon technologies by turning surplus reductions into a financial asset Operational Flexibility: The mechanism allows operators to pool vessels within a fleet or collaborate with other companies, providing flexibility and reducing the overall cost of compliance. This flexibility is especially crucial for managing varying fuel availability and price fluctuations across different routes Incentivizing Green Investments: By offering pooling as a financial instrument, the EU aims to motivate shipowners to invest in advanced technologies like e-methanol and RFNBOs (Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin). The regulation includes a multiplier incentive for RFNBOs, effectively doubling their compliance value until 2033, thereby maximizing their financial benefit when used in pooling arrangements . The Emerging Market for Compliance Units With the EU aiming to establish a robust marketplace, companies can anticipate trading platforms where compliance units will be exchanged. Early adopters of green technologies, such as bio-methanol and e-ammonia, are likely to hold significant market power, setting prices for these compliance units up to the equivalent cost of non-compliance penalties. At Singapore Methanol, we recognize the strategic opportunities by investing in advanced green fuels and pooling arrangements, we aim to not only meet but exceed regulatory targets, positioning ourselves and our partners at the forefront of maritime decarbonization. #FuelEU #MaritimeDecarbonization #BioMethanol #SustainableShipping #CompliancePooling #GreenShipping #RFNBO #EURegulations #SingaporeMethanol #CircularEconomy #ClimateAction 😊

🛳 Maritime transport represents more than 80% of world trade volume, according to WTO figures. Hence the importance of ensuring that all those ships move powered by fuels that are as environmentally friendly as possible. One of those fuels is #methanol, which can be produced in different ways. The most ecological and sustainable is green methanol, produced from #hydrogen of renewable sources and captured CO₂. It is the option chosen by the logistics giant A.P. Moller - Maersk for its renewed fleet of container ships powered by e-methanol. The first of the 18 that are planned to be launched between this and next year has been recently delivered at the Ulsan shipyards (South Korea). 👉 https://lnkd.in/dWi6-P9x To create green H2 demand is necessary an increasement of the available market. New ships that work with (e-)methanol are a good example of it ✔ #greenhydrogen #greenhydrogen #sener
