It is time to start uncovering what is really happening with water in Australia one of the driest contenints on earth. Farming water, crop water who owns what and what are they up to? When are Australians going to question what is going on, I hope before it is too late. #australia #water #watertrading #farmingpractice #nowaternofood #waterintensivefarming #cotton #overseasownership #waterrights #dowehaveasayaustralia #government #farming #australianpublic #havealook #wemustfixthis

Curiosity is one of the most underutilized thought processes. In a World that teaches the "right" answers, be the person that asks: 🦋 "What if?" 🦋 "I wonder..." 🦋 "How do we?" In 1941, Dr. Boris Berkman spearheaded the effort to collect #milkweed pods for #WWII life #jackets. Boris changed the world. Boris asked, what if? Then who? Then how... and, we DID IT! The #USA pulled together and saved hundreds of thousands of #servicemen with milkweed. Guaranteed, there was no #monarch #butterfly or #pollinator crisis happening at the time. Using milkweed created more #habitat that helped monarch and #insect populations thrive. An upward cycle that made #life better for all. #milkweedmaverick #monarchflyway #curiosity #monarchmadness #biodiversity #biodiversityloss #soilhealth #waterquality #conservation

I recently wrote a short commentary piece for Mahabahu. It touches on the issue of the environment being used as a tool to achieve political ends. I believe such thinking is necessary as the environment hosts humanity and suffers from the consequences of humanity's actions. War and peace affect people, and ultimately the environment. By respecting people, we also respect nature and further peace. https://lnkd.in/da8-HhJi

As a result, tens of thousands of hectares of farmable land were flooded and thousands of acres more were placed at risk of desertification. Added to the agricultural devastation, the ecosystem that housed birds, animals, and fish was destroyed – and many of its creatures were displaced or killed. You're absolutely right FAO.. Agriculture has been central to human civilisation and is the primary activity that has sustained the human race over millennia. Agricultural development can contribute significantly to peace by raising incomes and employment, thereby reducing the social frustrations that give rise to violence. In this way, growth can be made more equitable, an effect that is enhanced if inequalities in access to natural capital, especially to land, are addressed as well. Agricultural growth also generates revenue for governments, allowing them to redress the grievances of disadvantaged populations. Agriculture is critical for countries rebuilding from war, especially in making recovery work for the poor.
#AgricultureCan be a beacon of peace, transforming the lives of displaced and host communities. At FAO, we know that growing food, right where it's needed most, can help foster collaboration, peaceful coexistence, and mutual understanding. #PeaceDay

In a world where we're increasingly disconnected from the soil beneath our feet, there's something profound about the hands of a farmer. They tell stories of resilience, hard work, and a deep connection to the land. These hands, weathered by sun and soil, are not merely tools for labor but vessels of wisdom and strength. Each callus and scar speaks of battles fought against the elements, against uncertainty, and against the relentless passage of time. But amidst the roughness, there's a tenderness born of nurturing life from the earth. These hands plant seeds with hope, coaxing life from the ground with patient determination. They cradle delicate shoots, sheltering them from harm, and harvest the fruits of labor with a sense of pride and gratitude. The hands of a farmer are a testament to the symbiotic relationship between humanity and nature, a reminder of our dependence on the land for sustenance and survival. They embody the essence of hard work, resilience, and stewardship, teaching us valuable lessons about perseverance and humility. So, the next time you see hands weathered by toil and time, take a moment to honor the farmers who feed the world. Their hands may be bruised and hardened, but they carry the legacy of generations past and the promise of sustenance for generations to come. 🌱 #Farmers #Resilience #Stewardship #Gratitude

Inspiring to see a leader and Vice Presidential candidate who truly understands the power of Earth Observation and GIS in governance. Tim Walz delivered this excellent talk last month at the Esri User Conference, highlighting this expertise. "If the public doesn't know how we're going to get there, if there's not measurable, displayable progress that they can see, it's going to be very, very difficult to get them to buy in." Walz has effectively deployed Earth Observation to measure and impact his state - reducing childhood poverty and managing flood risks. Hopefully his approach can serve as a model for leaders worldwide. He gets it. #EarthObservation #GIS #ClimateAction #DataDrivenGovernance

🌍 The Dual Nature of Human Innovation: Security and Hunger 🍞 Throughout history, civilization has crafted remarkable tools and techniques for survival, from harnessing fire to developing agriculture. However, this ingenuity also reveals a darker reality: the weaponization of hunger. Food has often been used as a weapon in warfare, leading to devastating famines and suffering for countless innocent lives. In my latest blog post, I explore this duality—how humanity's advancements in food security can coexist with the tragic manipulation of hunger as a means of coercion. Join me in examining the historical and modern contexts of hunger as a tool of war and the essential legal frameworks and humanitarian efforts needed to protect vulnerable populations. Let's advocate for food security as a fundamental human right! #FoodSecurity #HumanRights #Hunger #Sustainability #Innovation #GlobalChallenges https://lnkd.in/dQNpH6Yn
