For the first time ever, Magnum Photos and Polaroid have partnered to elevate instant photography through the eyes of photographic storytellers. The partnership features the photographic approach and craft of Jim Goldberg, Newsha Tavakolian and Enri Canaj, 3 renowned Magnum photographers known for their deep, empathetic storytelling and commitment to capturing real life in all its complexity. Together, we’re also launching an Open Call to discover new photographic storytellers who prefer real experiences, mistakes and authenticity over the often futile search for perfection. The open call invites all photographers worldwide to submit their photography portfolio (digital, analogue or Polaroid photography) and an idea for an empathy inspired story. Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/enuwnr9B Open from July 15 until August 12, 2024.

Did you know that leaving out scale is one of the most common mistakes in outdoor photography? Okay, so this is one of my favourite approaches when photographing outdoor scenes. Using scale in a composition is a great way to convey the size of the subject to viewers and the best way to achieve this is by including an element in the photograph that is familiar to most people. A common example is the human body. While individual sizes vary, the general proportions of the human figure are widely recognised. By placing a person near the subject in the image, viewers can quickly make a comparison, creating a clear and easily understood sense of the subject's size. Even though the primary focus may be on the natural surroundings, these familiar objects give the viewer an immediate sense of the immense size or distance being captured. When you take those epic travel photos but somehow they just don't give that wow factor you got looking at it with your eyes, check and see if you have scale in your images. #photography #tips #outdoorphotography #somewheresky 📸 - Lake Brienz in Switzerland.

Yesterday, August 19th, marked World Photography Day, a celebration of the art and impact of photography. This day commemorates the 1839 invention of the daguerreotype by Louis Daguerre, a pivotal moment that revolutionized how we capture and preserve memories. Photography has since evolved from a complex process into an accessible medium that touches every aspect of life—be it journalism, art, or personal storytelling. Through iconic images, photography shapes public opinion, ignites social movements, and connects us across cultures. In the digital age, anyone can share their perspective, making photography a universal language that transcends borders. While the official celebration was yesterday, the appreciation for photography continues. Today, we reflect on the photographers who capture the essence of our world and the photographs that tell our stories, reminding us of the power of an image to inspire, connect, and preserve our shared human experience. #WorldPhotographyDay #PhotographyArt #PhotoHistory #CaptureMoments #InspireThroughPhotos #PhotographyLife #PhotographyCommunity #PhotographyImpact #PreserveMemories #PhotographyLove #PhotographyCelebration #ArtOfPhotography

🌍 📸 Celebrating World Photography Day: Capturing Moments, Creating History* 📸 🌍 On August 19th, we celebrate World Photography Day 📷, a day that honors the art, craft, and science of photography. This day traces back to **1839**, when the French government announced the invention of the Daguerreotype 📷, the first publicly available photographic process, making photography accessible to the world. Photography 📷 isn't just about taking pictures; it's about preserving moments, telling stories, and creating a visual history of our lives and the world around us. From documenting monumental events to capturing everyday moments 📷, photography allows us to see the beauty in both the extraordinary and the mundane. In a world increasingly driven by visuals, photographs 📷 are powerful tools of expression, communication, and connection. They evoke emotions, bring people together, and remind us of our shared humanity. So, whether you're a professional photographer or someone who loves to snap pics with your phone 📷, today is the perfect day to celebrate the magic of photography 🎉 -----Let’s keep capturing the world, one frame at a time. 😎 #WorldPhotographyDay #PhotographyLovers #CaptureMoments #VisualStorytelling #ArtOfPhotography #CelebrateCreativity #DigitalArt #PhotographyCommunity

Keep Calm and Carry On: A New Take? A few years ago, I started participating in the 52frames photography community. It is a beautifully simple idea. Each week, a challenge or theme is set, and you submit one photo related to it. 52 weeks in a year means 52 challenges and 52 photos, hence "52frames". The only "judge" is yourself. A submission cannot be "disqualified" for not adequately meeting the challenge/theme. There are no rankings or awards, just a community of photographers who may comment, make suggestions, or offer appreciation. Each week, a panel of "pickers" chooses 52 photos from among the submissions to highlight—the 52picks. The pickers change each week, and the picks are entirely subjective and not based on specific technical or artistic criteria. This year, I am on track to complete the entire year of challenges for the first time! 47 down, 5 to go! Along the way, I have learned a lot about photographic and (digital) processing techniques. I cannot deny being pleased that two of my submissions this year, including last week's, have been featured in the 52picks list. But more important than appearing in that list is this... I was not as happy with my shot last week as I have been with some previous submissions that did not get "picked". This shows we can't always rely on our "inner critic". Often embodying the "stiff upper lip" national stereotype of Brits, this is perhaps a more optimistic and satisfying interpretation of "Keep Calm and Carry On". Keep doing your best; someone will appreciate it.

Notice the interplay of the water droplets, the vivid colors popping against a minimalist backdrop, and the meticulous composition – these are the details that elevate a simple product into a story. It's about creating a visual experience that stirs curiosity and captivates the viewer. Looking to tell your product's unique story or elevate your brand's visual narrative? Let's connect. 2024 - Lifestyle Photography by https://lnkd.in/dW9jnpq Client - Dr. Laura Stanton Lifestyle photography typically takes place in real-life environments like homes, streets, or outdoor locations, rather than in a studio. While the photos appear spontaneous, careful framing and composition are still extremely important to create visually authentic images. I love this type of photography because it goes beyond just people photography and encompasses a broader approach to capturing everyday life in an aesthetically pleasing and often aspirational way. Lifestyle photography is a versatile and evolving field that demands both technical skill and creative vision. #lifestylephotography #photography #portraitphotography #portraitphotographer

As photographers, we often focus on the moment we capture—but the real magic happens in preparation. Here’s why: Efficiency: Setting up beforehand speeds up the shoot. When everything is ready, the process flows smoothly. Mastering Natural Ice: Working with ice is tricky—it melts, shifts, and reflects light unpredictably. Preparation ensures you’re ready to capture it at its best. Minimizing Mistakes: Thorough prep helps anticipate challenges, reduce errors, and save time. Creative Freedom: With the technical details sorted, you can focus on creativity. Preparation isn’t just a step—it’s the foundation for stunning, efficient photography. #Photography #PreparationIsKey #NaturalIcePhotography #ProTips
