Amazon's annual #unBoxed conference is underway, with this morning's keynote featuring significant announcements for brands advertising on Amazon. Here are the key details brands should focus on for their upcoming strategies... Advertising Capabilities - #AmazonAds introduced new tools leveraging full-funnel insights to help brands launch products, optimize investments, and measure performance. Key points: 1. Amazon Marketing Cloud (#AMC) now offers no-code solutions for audience and frequency analysis. 2. A new multi-touch attribution model is coming, with full rollout in 2025. 3. New audience-based bid optimization allows automatic bid adjustments for specific segments. 4. New Product Launch (#NPL) service helps introduce products within 90 days across Amazon's properties. DSP Updates - Amazon #DSP innovations aim to improve audience reach, campaign planning, and optimization: 1. New DSP experience with streamlined campaign creation. 2. In few years total digital ad spend will reach 1 trillion. I see several problems: 1) It is hard to measure ROI. Only immediate decisions can be measured which means big part of it is a waste or invisible or both. There is a high probability that it is very inefficient in reaching goals (sales, awareness, engagement) on general scale, 2) Many industries do not see the benefits beyond FOMO, 3) Alternatives like direct connection databases with AI are developing. Why buy ads in hope they are seen by leads when you can just talk to leads directly? Digital advertising did not really evolve since I got online in second half of the 90s. It is still a boring annoying banner delivery. The essence of all of its problems is that it is a very centralized closed system controlled by few monopolies. And these monopolies (Google, Meta, Amazon, Microsoft) are too big and distracted to really innovate advertising. They just see it as a cash cow and do not want to touch it unless there is a huge disruption (even Open AI is not much of a problem for then). Advertising is an industry in desperate need of openness. Otherwise we will be looking at these stupid banners on clickbait websites for the next few hundred years. #openinnovation #innovation #digitaladvertising #digitalmarketing
