I write this post as I embark on a trip to some of our Cundall offices around the world. I'm excited to meet new members of our global team, catch up with longer-standing colleagues, visit some of our newer offices, and get out to see some of the projects being delivered by teams around our global Practice. In preparing for this trip, I've been reflecting on the strength of our culture, and the ties that bind us together as a global team. As we continue to grow, one might think that it would become harder to preserve and protect our culture, and maintain our identity as a single, joined-up Practice. Of course, we do need to work harder at it in some ways, and be more intentional in the work that we do in this space. I am privileged in my role to see many, many examples of people working hard to stay connected with each other, and of all the different ways in which people continue to embody our shared values of collaboration and integrity. So, to everyone who has reached out to me to offer help with practical arrangements, advice on things to see in any downtime, invitations to join them for social events, and offers of introductions to like-minded people, THANK YOU! A: I have been working in the world of construction for almost 6 years. Q: What do you like/enjoy about the field? A: I like the teamwork and the fact that no 2 days are ever the same. Q: What is one of your favorite things to do on your weekends/ day off? A: I can’t choose just one. I love to be creative and active on my days off. It is also a great way to spend time with my friends and family. Some of my favorite activities are; Improv, pickle ball, dancing, ping pong, bike riding and escape rooms. Q:If you had a super power, what would it be? A: This is an easy one, teleportation. I would love to be able to travel to any destination in the blink of an eye. Q: What’s your guilty pleasure song? A: “Simply the Best” by Tina Turner. I blame Schitt’s Creek for that. Q: What is the worst fashion decision you ever made? Do you have pictures? A: I had a pretty unfortunate perm in elementary school. To this day I remember looking in the mirror and thinking that I looked exactly like Hulk Hogan…and that was definitely NOT what I was going for. For that reason there aren’t many photos of me from that time period. 🙂 Click see more below: We caught up with Josh, one of our Property Managers at JFM Block & Estate Management and asked him to tell us a bit about his role and why he likes working at JFM. "I have just had my 2-year anniversary at JFM working as a Property Manager and could not be happier to be here. My day-to-day role sees me managing 7 developments across the London area with a mix of high- and low-rise buildings. Property management is such a varied role and one I find very enjoyable as no day is ever the same. Some days I can be speaking with directors about the upcoming vision of major works projects and how we can best implement these to get the right design and aesthetic for the block, the next I could be reacting to an on-site issue that requires urgent attendance and contractor liaison to ensure the best job is done for the residents at the premises. Property management doesn’t just mean maintenance but goes so much deeper in to managing the financial budget and accounts, assessing risk and most importantly the people that live and work at the properties we look after. 3 reasons I love working at JFM are that; 1. I feel empowered to do what I think is best and have the trust to make these decisions. 2. JFM has a strong Senior Management team. This enables me can communicate with my Team Manager and Senior Management who are always happy to share thoughts and opinions from their experiences. 3. JFM is a fun place to work. There is a strong focus on employee wellbeing and a culture of wanting to know each other outside of work through social events and activities such as the JFM 5-a-side football team (we are always looking for opponents if anyone wants a game?)"
