Inspiring indeed. Political opponents are just colleagues with differing perspectives (which can include our own friends). Sometimes we don't agree - how is that any different from friends and family, who after arguments and commotions are still friends and family? Overly adversarial approaches to politics don't lead to consensus, as political opponents are never really "defeated". Villifying them just pushes them further away from any possible middle ground. Worse yet, it can cast an illusion of fundamental disagreement over issues where we sometimes already agree, but use different ideological vocabulary to express the same thing. Cheers to those who had the brilliant idea of hosting this event!
How inspiring to ring in the season last night with former NDP leader Tom Mulcair moderating a conversation with former prime ministers Stephen Harper and Jean Chrétien. They were a refreshing reminder that political adversaries can have more in common than what divides them. They were also a reminder that all major political parties can support balanced budgets. They did. On lessons from leadership: “Be decisive.” (Chrétien) “After 10 years, the public likes to make a change.” (Harper) On democracy: “Democracy is in decline around the world and that worries me.” (Chrétien) “Go to a place where everyone agrees and there is no freedom in that country.” (Harper) On Donald Trump: “Keep your cool and don’t panic. They have to win all the time, so let them win and then run away with the money.” (Chrétien) “Don’t get intimidated.” (Harper) On economic frustrations: “The bigger issue is wealth distribution.” (Chrétien) On public distrust: “Trust the judgment of the people. Do what is right and people will reward you.” (Chrétien) “Tell people ahead of time what you’re going to do, and then do it.” (Harper) 3 leaders who campaigned for balanced budgets…from three parties.

Opportunity and Lower Costs for plain ole' 'Mericans. Amen! ... That's what free markets create. Yet, everything in Harris's policy maneuvers (never mind the past 3.5 years) drive the opposite. Have we really unlearned the fundamentals? Communism, free stuff and abdicating personal responsibilities are too seductive to too many. It leaves me dumbfounded. Consider this piece from the Grumpy Economist (worth subscribing): https://lnkd.in/gq8XueGF
Harris: There's a choice in this election. Donald Trump's plans are to devastate the middle class, punish working people, and make the cost of living go up for millions of Americans. On the other hand, when I'm elected president, we'll work to bring down costs, increase financial security and stability for your family, and expand opportunities for working and middle-class Americans.

In the latest in our series looking into battleground states in the lead up to the US election, we consider Nevada where Republican candidate Donald Trump is pushing into Democratic territory. Impacts: • A strong challenge to Senator Jacky Rosen (D) from Republican Sam Brown, a wounded army veteran, should help Trump. • Nevada has fewer residents over 65 than the national average, limiting the impact of Biden’s apparent appeal to older voters. • Biden’s concentration on gun violence as an issue in Nevada is more to shore up his base than to win over Republican or independent votes. • Trump unveiled his promise to exempt tips from federal taxes in Nevada, the US state with the highest proportion of hospitality workers. What a difference a week makes. From nowhere Harris is leading Trump in 5 of the 8 swing states and is tied in Georga. It seems like the moderates are in charge and there isn't enough crazies on the left and right to outweigh the moderates. Who knew most of America was moderate and not extreme ?? Not sure what to do? Call us for a different approach. #MLGWM #WealthManagement #FinancialPlanning #RetirementPlanning
