This epic tale of perseverance, courage, and endurance can be related to an apprentice's journey in completing an apprenticeship. Like the Alliance, an apprentice faces challenges, setbacks, and obstacles throughout training. The “seven years” of siege can be seen as a metaphor for the time and effort required to master new skills, overcome difficulties, and grow professionally. The "darts and bolts" symbolise the obstacles and frustrations apprentices may encounter, such as difficult tasks, learning curves, or unexpected challenges. However, just as the Alliance crosses the Misty Mountains and perseveres through the Siege of Barad-dûr, the apprentice can overcome these difficulties with determination and persistence. The journey teaches an apprentice resilience, teamwork, and dedication, leading apprentices to eventual success and mastery of their craft, just as the Alliance's efforts ultimately led to victory. #apprentice #apprenticejourney

I hear so many people complain about Skillbridge being confusing and therefore difficult. I also hear “it would be so hard to fix.” Would it though? When the military contracts for new weapons platforms do they just let the contractors do whatever they want? Do they say “build it however you want. In fact you can make them all different, our Servicemembers will figure them out”? No, they set a standard tell them to build it to their specs. So, why is this is not the same in Skillbridge? We tell Servicemembers there’s this platform called Skillbridge and that they should use it, but then they go to try and get hit with hundreds of different “models.” So, standardize it to benefit the Servicemember first and foremost. Here are three simple “fixes” to the “problem.” If your organization wants to be a Skillbridge you should be required to: 1)Guarantee hire into a company and/or placement into a registered apprenticeship (or both) 2)Not be allowed to charge a Servicemember their GI Bill to attend the Skillbridge training as it was not intended to be used for this purpose. (industry can and should cover training costs the same they do employees) 3)Not be able to enroll any Servicemember in a program until that veteran is connected to employment once they complete the Skillbridge and separate from the military. Make it the standard and the transitions issues go away. Will some “transitions”programs be upset? Yes they will. But is Skillbridge here for them or the Servicemember?

However, here are my 4 pieces of honest advice, that are probably not too common BUT are appropriate for those who want to be high achievers in an apprenticeship. 1. Do your books. 2. Learn to say no/make your apprenticeship a priority. 3. Apologies. 4. Live below your means. What else would you add? Exciting developments in Scotland's shipbuilding industry! Recent data shows a significant rise in employment, with naval work directly employing over 7,000 people and providing 1,000 apprenticeships. Babcock International Group and BAE Systems are at the forefront, with Babcock currently having 180+ apprentices and 3,500 employees, and BAE Systems recruiting almost 2,700 apprentices and graduates across the UK, with construction underway on a new £12m Applied Shipbuilding Academy in Glasgow. These investments highlight the industry's commitment to skill development and job creation. David Lockwood, CEO of Babcock, emphasised the importance of apprenticeships in sustaining technical skills for critical national defence programmes: “We were delighted to host the Minister for Defence Procurement, James Cartlidge MP, at our Rosyth site ahead of Scottish Apprenticeship week. Apprenticeships play a really important role in workforces across the UK, ensuring we can sustain the technical skills needed to continue to deliver critical national defence programmes, while offering exciting opportunities with direct benefits to local communities.” Simon Lister, Managing Director of Naval Ships at BAE Systems, highlighted the role of world-class facilities in training a top-notch workforce: " "We have a proud tradition of equipping our apprentices with the skills and training needed to develop long and rewarding careers. They are the next generation of shipbuilders that will design and build ships for the Royal Navy for decades to come. Training a world-class workforce requires world-class facilities.
