Auburn University recently hosted its fifth annual gathering of some of the most prominent real estate professionals in the Southeast in Birmingham, Alabama. Entitled The Auburn CityBuilders Future of Commercial Real Estate in Alabama, this year’s event brought together more than 325 attendees and presenters to discuss the prospects for commercial real estate development in all four regions of the state. Hosted by Auburn’s Institute for Real Estate Development (IRED), a partnership between CADC and Auburn University Harbert College of Business, the view that emerged from the more than 30 commercial real estate developers, capital providers, suppliers, and economic development officials on all five of this year’s CityBuilders panels of experts is that commercial real estate development in Alabama is poised for measured, increasingly broad-based growth during the second half of 2024 and beyond. aub.ie/CityBuilders2024

A global hub, a sister city, and a “big city with a small-town feel,” Chicago’s essence remains unshakable. The 6-time champions city. The ‘85 Bears city. The 2005 World Series Champs city. The city that broke a century-old curse. The Stanley Cup city. 4-time MLS Champs town. The WNBA champions city. Chicago is a city of champions with a winning mentality. How do we sustain that mentality? How do we continue to succeed? We succeed by uniting to focus on what truly matters to our residents and by making Chicago a city people aspire to call home. Whether they come from another city, state, or country, Chicago should continue to be a beacon for those striving to build a better life for themselves and their families. With its abundant fresh water, vibrant air and rail system, remarkable architecture, rich art and culture, and ample green spaces, Chicago’s strengths far outweigh its challenges. Yet, our challenges offer us a unique opportunity to come together and find solutions. How can we do it? By focusing on fixing the fundamentals. Link in comments. 👇

It's taken a few months, but I have my newest deep dive history of downtown Gainesville, part two of a three-part history. The 1980's were the first steps in revitalization. By focusing on designing for people and investing in the arts we created the sparks that would make downtown a lively city center by the early 2000's. How we funded that and how these decisions made downtown what it is today was what I focused on. Give it a read and let me know what you think: https://lnkd.in/gdCwxspF

It's all tied together. Politics, real estate, education, and place making. Related Ross is a major developer in Palm Beach county, owning office, residential, retail, and hotel. To make the county even more vibrant, they are helping create a new graduate school for Vanderbilt University in West Palm Beach. Ross said, "There’s no place that’s ever grown that doesn’t have great universities, great schools.” He's right. A vision for any great city today must include a variety of real estate and people to succeed. What makes New York so successful is the mix of everything it has here, including business people but also students, medical workers, the arts, etc. Great developers are also extremely skilled politically. Their ambitious projects are achieved through collaboration with local municipalities. #commercialrealestate #realestate #development #politics
