Very Low Earth Orbit (VLEO)-"A new kind of thruster: Based in Hawthorne, CA, Phase Four is working on an RF-powered electric propulsion system designed to be mass-manufacturable and affordable. The company has four systems on orbit today. Another 82 systems are expected to be delivered over the next 15 months.Next on the product roadmap is a multimode system using hydrazine and peroxide fuels, and Phase Four expects to begin taking those orders in Q4. ... The market for VLEO: When you start trying to fly satellites below LEO, you run into the not-insignificant problem of atmospheric drag. Figuring out a way to sustainably operate satellites in VLEO could potentially open a whole new market for services in the expansive region between where high-altitude balloons and low-flying satellites exist today."... https://lnkd.in/exKPQQyF
Big news! I'm excited to announce that Phase Four has been awarded a $14.9M contract by Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to deliver an “air-breathing” electric propulsion system for Very Low Earth Orbit (VLEO) operations, at altitudes as low as 90-450km. It's incredibly rewarding to have this vote of confidence from DARPA and see our thruster being utilized for such a critical mission. And now with VLEO added, Phase Four’s portfolio of propulsion capabilities spans the totality of the space domain, from near-space to deep space. 🚀 #space #darpa #satellites #vleo #nationalsecurity #propulsion #electricpropulsion

#ECAPS' 1 N high performance green propulsion #thruster is the world's most successful green propellant thruster, with more than 130x units in orbit and another >150x units awaiting launch. The thruster enables apogee and reaction control maneuvering as well as proximity operations for spacecraft performing everything from debris removal missions to earth observation. It operates on the low-toxic monopropellant #LMP-103S which offers 1.3x the density-impulse of #hydrazine, and up to 75% cheaper spacecraft loading campaigns, reducing the total life-cycle cost of the mission. The propellant is long-term stable (>15 years) and enables "fuel at the factory" for rapid response spacecraft and easy launch vehicle integration. #GreenPropulsion #Thrusters #Rockets #Propulsion

Exolaunch, a company specializing in satellite deployment and mission management, is gearing up for the Bandwagon-2 Rideshare mission in collaboration with SpaceX. The Bandwagon-2 mission builds on the Bandwagon-1 launch conducted earlier this year. The mission’s mid-inclination orbital profile is noted for its unique opportunities, catering to the needs of satellite operators with diverse payload configurations. Scheduled for no earlier than December 2024, the launch will take place from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. This mission involves the integration and deployment of 22 satellites for Exolaunch, with 15 CubeSats and 7 microsatellites forming the payload. 𝗦𝘂𝗯-𝗢𝗿𝗯𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗟𝗮𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗲 #CFD #Simulation The Sub-Orbital Accelerator is designed to launch the rocket close to Earth's orbit, approximately 2,000 kilometres above the surface. SpinLaunch intends to enhance its technology and machinery to launch space objects into even higher orbits. Approximately 90% of the traditional #satellite launcher's capacity is occupied by fuel. Using a SpinLaunch fuelless launcher, it becomes feasible to propel a 20-200 kg projectile to speeds of up to 6.5 Mach. For more detail: https://lnkd.in/dRV-7KKZ 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲: This 𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗼 showcases a simulated depiction of a moving projectile (wait for the beautiful subsonic transition at the end!). The projectile's initial velocity is 3 Mach and it has a mass of 100 kilograms. For more details on the Drag coefficient and projectile shape, check out the comments section below. While quasi-stationary solutions are feasible, I opted for 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘀𝗶𝗺𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, which presents several challenges: 1. Stability Issues: Mitigated by using a low element growth rate factor. 2. Boundary Fluctuations: Addressed by applying rational constraints at the boundaries for damping. 3. Extremely High number of time-steps: Resolved by employing an implicit formula to accommodate high CFL numbers. _________________ 𝗛𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗶𝗻 𝗔𝘀𝗴𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗶 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗦𝗢𝗟 𝗠𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗽𝗵𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝘂𝗺: https://lnkd.in/duEnY9Nj #military #engineering #comsol #multiphysics

🛰️Sidus Space Begins Payload Activation Upon Successful Completion of Commissioning Phase of LizzieSat-1 LS-1 was successfully launched and deployed via #SpaceX Falcon 9 from #Vandenberg SLC-4 on March 4, 2024. The Sidus team successfully completed the Launch and Early Operations Phase (LEOP) on March 14th after establishing two-way communications with the orbiting spacecraft and receiving NORAD ID 59132 from USSPACECOM as a permanently catalogued space object called “LizzieSat”. After LEOP, the Sidus Mission Control Center (MCC) team transitioned to the commissioning phase, conducting thorough performance evaluations of all critical subsystems. The Sidus MCC team activated each critical spacecraft component individually and as part of the entire system to verify satisfactory performance after two months in Low Earth Orbit (LEO). Aurora joined the 38th annual Small Satellite Conference (SmallSat) where our CCO Maximilian LeRoux had an opportunity to have plenty of very interesting discussions about the satellite propulsion and deorbiting systems. Aurora’s thruster system extends your mission lifespan and optimizes your space operations. Our safe and effective solution for deorbiting meets international space regulations. The FCC approved in 2022 a new rule that requires all satellites launched after 29th of Sept 2024 to deorbit within five years of ending their mission. Are you already FCC 5-year deorbiting compliant? #space #spacetechnology #innovations #satellite #spaceexploration #startupventures #venturecapital #deeptech #aerospace #newspace #spacedebris #sustainability
