A couple of days back in my nursery WMB Childcare Ltd, I watched the toddlers explore the outdoor area, moving from one activity to another, learning through play, and it brought back memories of how I was made to learn behind the desk. Growing up, many of us were familiar with the saying, "There is a time to play and a time to work." This belief often manifested in our educational experiences, where we were expected to sit behind desks and focus on learning how to count, read, and write. Playtime was strictly allocated, often limited to recess or specific periods in the school day. However, contemporary research and educational practices highlight the critical role of play in early childhood education, blurring the lines between play and work in the learning environment. Play is not just a break from learning; it is a powerful tool that fosters cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development. Through play, children explore the world around them, develop problem-solving skills, and build social connections. It encourages creativity, resilience, and a love for learning. By integrating play into our educational approaches, we can create a more engaging, supportive, and effective learning environment for young children. Let’s embrace play as a vital part of education and watch our children thrive! #EarlyChildhoodEducation #PlayBasedLearning #ChildDevelopment #EducationReform

The Canada-New Brunswick Early Childhood Education program provides financial supports for parents to offset the cost of Early Learning and Childcare programs. These supports are determined using a sliding scale, which ensures those who earn the least receive the largest benefits. One of the new funding opportunities, called the Access Project, provides high quality ‘pre-school’ programs that prepare four-year-old children for Kindergarten. This program is free for low-income families. The families do not need to be employed to qualify. In 2023, 100 four-year-old children in New Brunswick benefitted from the Access Project. We believe this program should be rapidly expanded, and include children from 0-4 years of age, regardless of the employment status of their parents.

Happy Monday, everyone! I attended the Childcare & Education Expo, and it was such an insightful experience. Big thanks to YellowNest. It was a reminder of how essential nurseries are in children’s lives. Here are some of my key takeaways: What parents care about Safety, happiness, and a solid foundation for primary school are top priorities. It’s clear these elements are crucial for children to thrive. Voices from the professionals Early years educators shared concerns about overly simplistic inspections. They need experienced inspectors who understand the nuances of early education to build trust and support nurseries. Curriculum highlights It’s heartening to see that effective curriculums consider what children already know and build on their interests. Play is just as important as structured learning! Language matters The quality of interactions children have with adults shapes their language development. Every conversation truly counts. PSED is key Supporting children in forming positive relationships and understanding their emotions is fundamental for their overall well-being. It’s all about creating a nurturing environment for growth. Nurseries are so much more than just a place for childcare they're foundational spaces where children learn, play, and flourish. #YellowNest #EarlyYears #Childcare #Education #Childedexpo

Why Early Childhood Education Matters in Childcare At Small Feat Preschool, we understand that the early years are the foundation for a child’s lifelong growth. During these formative years, children need not only a safe environment but also trained professionals who can nurture their development in every way. Research shows that early socialization and structured learning activities are essential for: • Building Social Skills: Interacting with peers and adults teaches children how to communicate, share, and collaborate. • Fostering Curiosity and Exploration: Through diverse activities, children develop a love for learning and creativity. • Creating a Strong Emotional Base: Positive early experiences shape their confidence and resilience. While being at home offers comfort, it’s in a childcare setting—with skilled educators—that children receive the interaction, stimulation, and care they need to thrive fully. Let’s give every child the opportunity to grow, explore, and build a solid foundation for the future. #Childcare #EarlyChildhoodEducation #SmallFeatPreschool #GrowthAndDevelopment #SupportOurChildren
