The new government has confirmed it will press ahead with a National Payments Vision. This is great news. Some thoughts for Instant Payments in the linked paper on the topic. Instant payment, request to pay...all these are the needed steps before you can start collecting the value of moving from batch payments world (read: transaction orientation) to instant (read: real-time data orientation). Sure, the real-time funds movement is interesting for some use cases. More we have experienced the value for seller/biller to get real-time information on payments / account receivables and automating "get-paid" processes.

#CapitalNews | NBE Set to Launch Interoperable QR Code Payments by December In a significant move towards digital financial inclusion, Ethiopia is set to launch its interoperable QR code payment system by December 2024. This initiative aims to enhance the efficiency of cashless transactions and promote the widespread adoption of digital payments among merchants and consumers alike. The new system, developed in alignment with global EMVCo standards, will allow merchants to generate QR codes that can be scanned by consumers using various banking applications. This interoperability means that consumers will be able to make payments seamlessly across different payment platforms, regardless of their financial service providers.

With the regulation in Europe and initiatives across the world, banks are working heavily to comply with #InstantPayments. However, with the compliance approach, the business opportunities might be missed.
