CE Hon. Tracey Martin is en route to Reefton today to meet with locals fighting to replace the aged care services their community lost earlier this year. For many, the closure of Ziman House has meant loved ones must leave their town, their community, and their loved ones to receive the care they need. Today's update explores the challenges of delivering care in rural areas such as Reefton, and what New Zealand can learn from Australia's approach. Because we don’t have to reinvent the wheel here; we can learn from proven models and adapt them to meet the unique needs of our communities, ensuring equitable access to care for all New Zealanders, no matter where they live. Tracey also points out that these scenarios are the results of decisions. Somewhere along the way, a decision has been made inside Te Whatu Ora, inside government, that it is okay not to provide aged care to some of our communities. The ACA continues to call for members of government to look at what the Australian’s are doing, and consider the benefits for the New Zealand aged care sector of adopting innovative funding models, like block funding, to support rural and regional communities in providing sustainable and locally tailored aged care solutions. #AgedCare #RuralHealthcare #RuralCommunities

This time last year, Rob Davarnia and I set up what would become Heyo in a whirlwind 72 hours. Didn't have a name, just a placeholder business entity registered to hit the ground running and get bank accounts set up so we could get the team hired. It was probably one of the craziest 72 hours of my life. Totally worth it. I can't believe how quick this year has flown by. I am so incredibly grateful to continue to get to do life and work alongside these amazing individuals. The grit and determination of this team to stick together after we all lost our jobs last year is unlike anything I've ever seen or heard of before. Thanks to all the clients that trusted us to continue working together. It shows how much of a relationship was built over the last 5 years. I can't thank so many of you enough for the kind words and encouragement you sent to both the team and myself assuring us that you couldn't even imagine working with anyone else and you trusted us to figure it out quickly as we got Heyo established to continue your projects. You helped provide that support for us to re-hire the team and get right back to work. Not many companies get to start off day 1 with nearly a year of work secured. To our team, thank you and your families for trusting us through a whirlwind transition to care for them, and provide a stable workplace so we can all put food on the table for our families. Thank you for being the amazing individuals that you are. We live, laugh, learn and grow together doing life with each other. I'm so proud of the teammates I get to be surrounded with and even more excited that I get to call y'all friends and not just coworkers. This has been such a rewarding experience. It's hard to put into words, but when everyone on the team is rowing in the same direction, it's amazing how smooth of a journey and how much you can accomplish. This warrants it's own post, but to try and quickly summarize, from an operational and team standpoint, things have been so smooth that it's allowed our leadership team to really focus on the core of the business rather than be in the business. For the first time in many years, after my software engineering company was acquired in 2021, I had a moment to step back and ask what’s next. The answer was simple: create an amazing team and help companies deliver great products. However, the timing wasn’t perfect. Last year, Peter and I set out to start a new agency. He and I have worked together through several agencies and ventures over the past 12 years. With my background in software engineering and Peter’s in design, we decided to combine our skills and build a full-service agency, Heyo. At my previous companies, I faced the challenge of clients requesting design services for development projects, which we didn’t offer. This led to referring clients to partners, resulting in a fragmented experience. To address this, we wanted Heyo to be a truly ‘full-service’ agency from the ground up, assembling dedicated teams for branding, UI/UX, illustration, and engineering, all under one roof. It’s been a fulfilling experience seeing Heyo come to life and applying lessons from the past. Today marks Heyo’s anniversary (or, as we call it, Heyoversary)! Thanks to our clients for trusting us. We are grateful for the relationship and continued partnership. Thanks to our team for always showing up and delivering beyond expectations. First best practice for podcast hosts is to have a guest application form and then organize a pre-screening call beforehand. It always helps. Second best practice is to use a dedicated platform (like Podmatch) where it's very easy to vet potential guests and contact those that fit our audience the best.

Who's ready to ditch the traffic jam for a skyway commute? ️ Flying cars have been the stuff of science fiction for decades, but with advancements in technology, they're becoming a more realistic possibility. Will they be our everyday mode of transportation in the future? I for one, would love to see it! It would definitely cut down on commute times.
