Representation matters: a movie recommendation, a confession, a CTA. Last night my friend Alison invited me to a one-night-only movie screening in Manhattan. It was not: celebrities, red carpets, flashbulbs, a fully packed theater It was: a small romcom indy film with a disabled protagonist in a half empty theater [Spoiler alert] When the guy got his girl -- there were audible happy sighs and exclamations of delight from the members of the community who had shown up enmass (at least to the extent the theater could accommodate a limited number of wheelchairs and scooters) to see themselves on screen. It got me thinking about all the boring briefs I've written that resulted in casting the "ambiguous multi-racial" person. Because... mass appeal? Covering our bases? [chagrin] Make bold choices that get an audible response because the audience feels seen, maybe for the first time. Resonate with someone because the “safe” choice doesn't actually connect with anyone. Homogeneity is so booooooring. Also, and this is the business bit: Gen Z isn't having it.

🎥 Creating Impactful Visual Stories: Docu-Film with Tank and The Bangas This year, I had the privilege of working on This Black Girl, a visually stunning docu-film featuring Grammy-nominated Tank and The Bangas. Directed by the talented Justen Williams, this project showcased the power of authentic storytelling, merging music, poetry, dance, and cinematography to celebrate the brilliance of Black women. Projects like this go beyond entertainment—they create conversations, elevate brands, and connect deeply with audiences. With my expertise in documentary filmmaking, creative strategy, and visual storytelling, I help brands, artists, and platforms craft compelling narratives that leave lasting impressions. As we look ahead to 2025, I’m eager to partner with marketing directors, brand leaders, and high-profile creatives to bring more impactful projects to life. Let’s create content that not only tells stories but drives engagement and inspires action. 📩 Ready to collaborate? Let’s talk about how we can elevate your next campaign, brand narrative, or creative vision. #VisualStorytelling #DocumentaryFilmmaking #CreativeStrategy #BrandStorytelling #ContentMarketing #TankAndTheBangas #MusicDocuFilm #AuthenticContent #MarketingForBrands #CampaignsThatInspire

What a great illustration of the use of the visual economy. The latest video by the Princess of Wales shows that she and Prince William are embracing modern visual communications and taking control of their own story. Just as the late Queen Elizabeth did in first inisisting that her coronation should be televised and then going on to allow television coverage of her family through the years. At the beginning of my new book The Visual Revolution Guidebook I point out that we are all broadcasters now and that nowadays businesses, governments, police forces, terrorist groups, and even the British royal family make announcements in videos on social media. They all realise the power of communicating visually. And the visual economy is growing fast. According to Global Media Insight, YouTube has exceeded 2.7 billion monthly users in August 2024, chasing Facebook’s 3.07 billion monthly users, and 92.3% of internet users worldwide consume videos weekly on social media (Oberlo/DataReportal). Marketers report higher engagement and return on investment when using videos for marketing. #royalfamily #videorevolution #visualeconomy https://lnkd.in/eXK-EkCZ

Robert Brunner, founder of Ammunition and part of the team behind Beats by Dre, has a recommendation for young designers hoping to stand out: Try stand-up comedy. “Go take the comedy class. Learn how to stand up in front of people to communicate thoughts and ideas”, Brunner said at Fortune’s #BrainstormDesign conference in Macau. The designer, who joined virtually, shared that creatives needed to “educate, motivate, cajole and sell [their ideas].” Read more: https://lnkd.in/euYa6e8q

When you start in life, the stuff that drives every step you make and every breath you take looks like the photo on the left. As you age, it looks like the photo on the right. This show talks about how it can now be repaired. https://lnkd.in/e7mBaC9a
