Our lives have been radically reshaped by the telecommunications industry’s investments in disruptive wireless technologies over the past few decades, but telcos themselves have increasingly struggled to benefit from the unprecedented value creation. In this report, we examine the next-generation mobile standard, 6G, which offers telcos the opportunity to change the status quo and revitalize the industry. To reap these potential rewards, the telecom industry needs to overcome the headwinds created by previous generations of wireless telecommunications standards and embrace collaboration (both within and outside the sector) to an unprecedented degree.

ICYMI: Japanese researchers have shattered the world record for internet speed, achieving a staggering 402 terabits per second. This speed is about 1.5 million times faster than the average home internet connection, which is 46.8 megabits per second globally. To put it into perspective, with this new speed, you could download 5,000 high-definition movies in just one second. The breakthrough involves advanced fiber-optic technology and multiplexing methods, greatly expanding data transmission capacity and speed. This innovation could revolutionize global internet infrastructure and connectivity. #telecom #fiber #broadband #internet

As telecom technologies evolve, standards and specifications play a critical role. Two key organizations lead this effort: International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project). ↗ ITU defines the overall concepts, performance metrics, and key deliverables for each technology generation. ↗ 3GPP builds on ITU’s concepts, producing detailed reports and specifications through various "releases." Each 3GPP release introduces new features and enhancements, from 2G (Release 98) to 5G (Releases 15-18). Future 6G advancements are expected in Release 20. These standards ensure that every equipment maker and network provider can implement the latest technological advancements seamlessly. 👉 To learn about telecom technologies in detail, visit - https://lnkd.in/eP7cBSTa #telecom #technology #learning #platform #itelcotech #academia #itelcotechacademia
