Happy Fri-Yay! This month, we're excited to shine the spotlight on Alex Arnott, our amazing Channel Manager for PEDESTRIAN TELEVISION. What is your role at PG? Channel Manager for PEDESTRIAN TELEVISION Tell us about your journey at PG. I came from a TV programming background, and was brought to PG to establish their own telly channel, our glorious chaotic child PEDESTRIAN TELEVISION. I got to throw myself into so many areas of TV work that have in past workplaces been separated into different departments. Things like acquisitions, product, marketing, producing, booking talent, and, my personal nemesis, classifications. What is the favourite part about working for PG? Being amongst people who get it! The collective knowledge of the PG staff is next level, and it ranges from knowing intuitively who Charli is singing about on Brat, to the best anime series of the past 6 months, to the editorial teams knowing stuff about the economy or whatever. Everyone knows their shit back to front, and are so willing to share their expertise to get the best possible results. So, lame but true, it's the people. What is your proudest moment at PG? Launching a channel is pretty epic, especially being the first FAST channel for 9Now. But my personal favourite was organising the most kick-ass talent show to farewell one of our colleagues. Is that bad to say? What advice do you have for prospective PG candidates? Stand out! Figure out what you know down & work out how to communicate it, no matter what role you're applying for. The projects everyone works on can vary so much, so find out what you can add and then sell sell sell, bb! And don't wear a suit to the interview, you'll stress out the creatives. #employeespotlight #culture #media #Pedestriantelevision

Cheers to Shared Values. I like discovering values that I have in common with people I work with. It helps me stay curious about what drives them, which in turn keeps me excited about working with them. Recently I began working on a project with someone I had interviewed someone years ago while working as a TV presenter for NTA. This time, I’m understudying her as a producer. All it took for me to know I was going to love working with her was when she said ‘I love making people look good on Camera’. What?! 😄😄 That’s Me! One of my goals as a producer is to make sure that ANYONE who comes in front of the camera for whatever I’m producing, looks good. And this is not make-up talk, although great make-up always helps boost confidence. But this is deeper than that. -If you started timid, you become confident. -If you missed your lines, you know how to pick up. -If you’re not comfortable about being in front, you wear your game face. - If the whole process is too fast for you, we help you adapt. - If you didn’t like your overall performance, we share ideas and go at it again next time. Here’s how I see it: when the talent is comfortable, and feels good working the camera, the audience can feel it and connect. When the audience connects, the station has a higher chance of retaining viewership. Ratings go up. Everybody wins- Talent, Audience, Company. And me too, I win. Because I did that 😄 There are so many instances that come to mind about making people look good on camera, as I write this, and I’m so thankful that I’ve been able to see the diamond in people so that they could see it in themselves. I’m even more thankful that I also get to work with people who can identify diamonds in people and stories. Do you know what values you share with your colleagues? I’d like to know. #producer #producing #talent #talentmentor #tvproduction #content

Hey Friends and Colleagues, As you may know my time at Scripps Networks recently came to an end as their business evolved into live sports and away from original productions. So, I find myself at a crossroads in my nearly 30-year career and asking myself “What’s next?” As I sort out the answer to that it occurred to me that I have a lot of skills others may find valuable so I’m putting myself out there as your one stop creative consultant. In need of some high volume, high quality video production from a guy who literally wrote/directed/produced thousands of hours of Robert Osborne film introductions for TCM? That’s me. Do you have some inexperienced on-camera talent that needs guidance from someone whose made dozens of civilians comfortable with the production experience? BTDT. Need an objective opinion about a script from a seasoned development executive? My notes go down like butter. Interview shows? I got your back. Live event? Not a problem. Inefficient workflow? I’m like a plumber. Are you just in need of an utterly charming guy to make your office a better place? I can help you find him. I guess what I’m trying to say is – if you need some help or know someone in need, give me a call.

25 years ago, I embarked on my TV production management career—and let’s just say things haven’t gone exactly to plan! Emmerdale was an early part of my journey as a trainee Production Co-ordinator through the Yorkshire Media Training Consortium (YMTC). I spent six months immersed in the Production Team, learning the ins and outs of keeping the production wheels turning on one of Britain’s most loved soaps. Recently, I had the chance to revisit the Emmerdale set in Leeds. Standing in the iconic ‘Woolpack’ felt like the perfect moment to reflect on my television production management journey. Trainee Co-ordinator: 1.5 years Production Co-ordinator: 6 years Production Manager: 15 years Line Producer: 3 years For the most part I’ve really enjoyed my TV career and met some wonderful people, forged meaningful friendships and built great working relationships. I have also encountered many adversarial gatekeepers, progression blockers, confidence breakers and ambition destroyers but I recognise that they were all teachable moments. And I certainly learned! Stepping back onto the Emmerdale set was a healthy reminder of why I wanted to work in TV—and why I’m not done yet. While I haven't achieved half of the things I dreamed of in 1999, and in spite of a slower-than-expected progression through the production ranks (I didn't just take the stairs – I hand carved them), I still have big career goals to achieve. The next 25 years won’t mirror the last. My priorities have shifted, life has evolved, and the industry has changed. But I believe in 2025, I’m not just going to survive—I’m going to thrive! #25YearsOfTVProductionManagement #TVProductionManagement #ThriveIn2025 #BPMUK #ItAintOver

As someone who used to run the product placement division at a large entertainment PR firm, I know the game more than just about anyone. It is one based on relationships and back scratching. I did a lot of favors for people in order to get products in the hands of A-list talent, in movies and TV shows, in the media, etc. Now, as an athlete, talent and creator manager if I don't know you, I won't be giving you access to my clients. We don't want free product. We want to get paid. You are getting paid to shill products to talent, so we should get paid to accept and disseminate it. I don't work for free so you can get paid. Nobody should. Transact with us or go away. #rprt #management #productplacement #celebritygifting #payorgoaway

Introvert Guide: Ratings vs. Views? Social Media Views as a collective does not mean high ratings. There is a clear difference between the two. Ratings, as a composite, refers to individuals who set aside a particular time and space in order to watch a particular tv program. It is like setting up an appointment with a doctor who you feel caters to your medical needs... trust is the core emotion. Views, on the other hand, as a unified construct, refers to convenience. It is like going to a doctor at any point in time with a space that is often subject to walk in considerations. It is not a question of feeling, rather, it answers to how accessible the doctor is.... thus, reliability is the core emotion. TV Ratings measure content engagement. SocMed Views measure content reach. Social Media does not engage individuals, in principle, what it does is to reach individuals who are, in the first place, do not watch television in the first place or veered away from it for over 2 to 3 years. TV Ratings is more geared towards engagement which translates to constantly maintaining existing tv viewers and developing new ones through generational imprinting. What TV does with SocMed is to allocate it’s ability to reach potential viewers or recruit back those who veered away from watching television. Often, the error for some TV Networks is to use SocMed to maintain base viewers and develop new ones. Such is an error that tends to confuse content developers because often it does not add up. So, by understanding the difference, one is able to come up with a more comprehensive programming strategy that uses the strengths of both engagement and reach. #television #writing #tentpole #streaming #socialmedia #strategy #creativity #storytelling #engagement #reach # #television #content #programming #television #engagement #engagementstrategy #storytelling #television #writing #engagement #storytelling #writing #gmastorytellers #television #television #engagement #tentpole #writing #television #primetime #creative #series #engagement #television #primetime #creative #series #engagement #RealNumbers #BGYO #SB19 #BINI #starmagic #pitchingideas #writing #gmastorytellers #GMAIntegratedNews #GMARegionalTV #GMA #GMAIntegratedNews #GMA #Ratings #GMARegionalTV #ratingsvsaward #engagement #television #tentpole #creative #streaming #CignalTV #ABSCBN #TV5 #Kapamilya #Kapatid #Kapuso #creative #promo #marketingdigital
