The recent boat capsizing in Srinagar and the delayed construction of the Batwara bridge demand urgent attention and accountability. https://lnkd.in/dErmZwd5 Regarding the boat incident, it's evident that negligence and lack of safety measures played a significant role. The absence of guidelines, capacity limits, safety equipment, and emergency response teams on boats operating on the Jehlum River is alarming. The authorities, including the Srinagar Municipality and boat owners, must be held responsible for ensuring the safety of passengers. Similarly, the prolonged delay and discrepancies in the Batwara bridge construction highlight systemic issues within the JKPWD. The sudden changes in the project specifications, coupled with the contractor's abandonment of the work midway, raise questions about financial management and project oversight. There is a pressing need for transparency and accountability in infrastructure projects to prevent such failures in the future.

Workmanship defect Guarantee cannot be enforced most of time because of huge cost [eg few 100 Cr +] . No contractor Company can keep provisions for 2 decades or even for 8-10 yrs in balance sheet for huge amount. So practicle implementation financially not feasible for contractors. Principal may forfeit 2-7% of contract value. Further long court battle , may force govt to spend from their pocket. What will happen if 100 -300Cr work is to be redone? who will pay ? Who have capacity? I was promoting a product earlier where - There is a insurance Policy for Warranty period where insurance company may pay all repair costs [if to be redone due to defect] within 10 yrs of handover of a residence building / structure. But very less people ask for this insurance cover in INDIA. PREMIUM and inspection / supervision cost is also high. Financiers/ stakeholders need to push for these insurance Policies / covers. No one buys in India. Let's wait ... ..
