Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute’s Post

The Lambor Bridge connects two communities across the Perak River in Perak, Malaysia. A goal of this project, produced by DURA® Technology, was to elevate the bridge over the 100-year flood level. To meet grade requirements, this bridge and road, with an elevation of 12 meters, would have had to be built at an elevation of more than 21.25 meters. Keeping this in mind, along with climate concerns, the design team decided on using ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC). Using UHPC allows the bridge to be fully submerged in the event of extreme flooding, preventing intrusion of salt and moisture as well as eliminating the need to be elevated. This being Malaysia’s first submersible bridge really showcases the durability and longevity precast concrete offers.
