After many years in the biz, I can attest everything here is true. Journalism is much more than a career. It's a noble profession and a contact sport that isn't for the faint of heart. And remember that news doesn't happen in newsrooms so get out of the office as much as possible! #journalism #reporters Southern California News Group https://lnkd.in/gzcY4tu5

Our latest episode of #CoffeeWithAJournalist features Susannah Snider, managing editor overseeing the Money section at U.S. News. Susannah took us into her world of journalism and uncovered how publicists can better pitch their stories: 👀 Subject lines are probably 90% of what I'm going to see." Susannah emphasized the importance of a strong, clear, and error-free subject line in pitches. It's often the deciding factor for whether your email gets opened. 🔍 "We want to make sure that that person really has experience in the field." For financial stories, U.S. News looks for verifiable experts like CFPs and CPAs. Susannah shares that being able to demonstrate genuine expertise makes all the difference in getting picked as a source. 📆 "We're often pitching four to six weeks out. Think ahead!" Susannah's team plans their editorial calendar 4-6 weeks in advance. If you're interested in pitching for February's calendar, think ahead and start pitching by late December or early January. For those interested in building better relationships with journalists, this episode is packed with valuable insights. Don’t miss out! 📢 Listen now: https://bit.ly/3D5naB8

I am thrilled to announce the publication of our latest paper, a collaborative effort that sheds light on the complexities of digital ecosystems, particularly within the realm of Github. I am immensely grateful to my co-authors and the dedicated reviewers, with special thanks to Tomás and Valeria. This paper delves into the nuances of overcoming boundaries in the digital space, highlighting the ways in which discipline and geographical barriers can be transcended through platforms like Github. It is a testament to the power of global collaboration, showcasing how journalists from diverse backgrounds can come together to leverage the resources of larger newsrooms and share valuable insights through code sharing. However, our research also underscores the existence of asymmetry in the digital landscape, where certain areas have access to greater resources and subsequently foster a higher volume of projects. This raises important questions about diversity and inclusion within digital spaces, prompting us to critically examine the disparities that persist despite technological advancements. Let us continue to explore and address the complexities of digital ecosystems, working towards a more equitable and diverse future. I am truly honored to have been a part of this insightful endeavor, and I look forward to the meaningful discussions and progress it will inspire. #DigitalEcosystems #DiversityInTech #CollaborativeResearch

Eighteen weeks in and it feels like we’re only just starting to hit our stride. Feedback’s been great and we’ve already made positive changes to what we offer. So if you checked out The QT way back when we launched in February then it’s well worth having a fresh look. For starters our team of trusted freelancers - you’ll recognise many of the region’s foremost voices - is bigger, stronger and more diverse. What they have to say really is worth reading. We’ve delivered in-depth coverage on the mayoral elections, social care, prisons, education and more and continue to shine a light on the big players and emerging stars of North East business. There’s no better place to catch up with everything that’s happening on the arts and entertainment scene - Sam Wonfor and David Whetstone have long been the region’s culture tastemakers and continue to set the agenda. And our team of storytellers is second to none. We’re determined to keep informative, long-form journalism alive. Let us know what we’re doing right, what we’re doing wrong and what could be better. #northeast #news #business #culture #storytelling #journalism #politics #theqt
The QT is a weekly online news and features magazine. It is independent, politically-neutral but North East biased. Subscribing to The QT is an investment in quality regional journalism. There are no obtrusive ads, pop-ups or clickbait headlines. Just quality stories told by quality storytellers.
