Queen Elizabeth II was always a massive supporter of our armed forces and went out of her way to praise them to her people. This quote was from her Commonwealth Day Message of 1999 and holds true today. As #leaders of organisations, we can fully resonate with the values expressed in these words. Nothing is given or taken for granted and we value the sacrifices, in whatever form, those that have gone before us, have made. This creates the DNA of an organisation and is something we want to build upon, shape for the future and then live out. This leadership modelling is crucial to long term success. For those of us focused on #growth, both in #salesleadership and general management, we have to reflect through the lens of our existing and potential customers. We work together as partners because we are aligned with our values over the long term, we need to believe in creating a shared future. So today, let's ensure that we put in the hard yards which allows us a freedom to choose our destiny as leaders, individuals, teams and organisations. This is a powerful metaphor, underscoring the importance of maintaining a forward-looking perspective. By setting an example by what she could do, Queen Elizabeth demonstrated her love for our country and her people. This simple act endeared her to every one of us, and set a leadership style for generations to come. As #leaders of organisations we recognise that demonstrating a commitment to our people and teams is the one element of leadership that we need to exhibit at all times, it is the minimum that our people expect and deserve. We need to share our values and live by them, inspiring others, by our actions, to deliver on the vision we have agreed. Devoted isn't often a word used in today's business environment; however it is one that moves mountains for all of us. Devotion to duty is also a phrase not fully utilised by leaders today however it carries a great deal of emotive energy and is something we should look upon. Devoted to customer outcomes would be in every sense a great organisational value and one many of us believe in. Leaders often say, "Leadership is lonely" or "Nobody understands how hard it is". Here is the thing: leadership is not about the leader. Have you ever heard of Queen Elizabeth II complaining about how hard her role was? No, because she understood that it was not about her despite the fact that she had no other choice but to be in that role. You chose it, so stop complaining and making it about you. Leadership is hard; hence, it is only for a very few and certainly not for those who make it about themselves. Leadership is about serving and leading others. If you complain about your role, you complain about serving and leading others. Go and do something else. Clearly, you don't like doing that. It's ok! Never explain, never complain! #leadership

The Queen first used this quote in her 1976 Christmas Broadcast and here she is over 30 years later still emphasising that 'goodwill' at a state banquet for US President Barack Obama. Consistency is a key leadership trait. As #businessleaders when we look to the DNA within our organisations, we know this has been built up over many years of consistent modelling and is based on the values we live by. There should be no place for resentment in anything an organisation stands for, it is in our hands to change and deliver our destiny, we truly need to believe this. #Salesteams have significant roles to play as we win or lose based on our shared capability. Being generous to competitors is a key success trait, as we know that we can win on our own terms, but won't win all the time. There is no place for bitterness in defeat as this will slow us down and give us baggage we have to carry. Today avoid looking back to things we cannot change, look forward with confidence based on capability and values.
