Marine Corps veteran Jonathan Kuniholm attended the fall 2022 DAV Patriot Boot Camp. Kuniholm is the founder of StumpworX, a venture dedicated to improving prosthetic arm technology, starting with the socket. “Participating in an event like this with not just people who are entrepreneurs—but who also share my veteran experiences—is something that can't be replicated." As Veterans Day approaches, we honor and celebrate those who served, recognizing the dedication and sacrifices made in defense of our nation. For many veterans, separation from service is not a one-time event, but instead, a journey - a transition back to civilian life that unfolds over time. The transition process is not just about finding a new job or a place to live. It is a deeper journey of reconnecting, rediscovering, and navigating a cultural shift that can be profound. At Chimney Trail Foundation, we are committed to ensuring that veterans do not have to walk the trail of transition alone. That is why we are working to revitalize and create veteran centers - spaces designed to foster connection and community - where veterans can find camaraderie, resources, and support from those who understand the unique challenges of transition. These centers will be places of belonging and empowerment, where veterans can reconnect and find a renewed purpose as they navigate the transition to civilian life. Let's create a community that honors and supports veterans throughout this journey! https://lnkd.in/e4dKnKSm

Two more are gone: The Almanack of Naval Ravikant and Never Split the Difference. While the first is a consolidation of interviews and reflections about Happiness, Wealth, and Freedom, the second teaches you FBI proved and tested approaches such as labeling, mirroring and how to make effective questions, all of them highly applicable to the business world. Both really enjoyable to read! And to accompany me in the best time of the year, the summer of course 😉 , the next two picks are Antifragile and Can't Hurt Me.

I watched the 2024 documentary “Blue Angels” and I loved it! It follows the team during its 2022 season from practices to the final performance. I loved it not just because I grew up watching the Blue Angels and it is one of the reasons I joined the Navy. This is a movie that describes what any organization - sports, medicine, manufacturing, service - must do if it wants to go beyond great and become the absolute very best at what they do. In a world of growing mediocrity, we desperately need more perfection. Five out of five stars. https://lnkd.in/esx77WSS

#ProDev #PersonalDevelopment #BJJ #Women #SelfDefense #ReflectivePractice Hello Cristian, and thanks for sharing this! Mindful and purposeful self-reflective practice incorporated into this kind of dedicated programming inspires me beyond words. As you continue building these kinds of events, I’ll drop in my “required” reading: “Building Yoir StoryBrand” “The Art of Gathering” “The Power of Moments” Also, one last plug for all of you out there who host events: There are THREE parts of a successful event. (1) Before. That includes the personalized invitation, picking the location, covering down on all the logistics. (2) During. Ensure that people know that “this is for them.” Go the extra mile in hosting them toward success. (3) After. Don’t let that momentum fade. Build the “alumni” group. Get their email addresses/text numbers. Better yet, build a MarcoPolo group chat! // For those who host, what is a tip you have for making for powerful experiences? Drop a comment below…
Vandenberg BJJ held its first monthly women’s self defense class! Looking forward to building this program and our Children’s program after the new year.

Using advanced AI for logistics is a great way to leverage the power of AI. The range of applications for this tool seems endless. Personally I thought of how much faster any kind of disaster recovery efforts could be put together. The CEO spent time in the Army, so he knows what practical logistics looks like. Its worth taking some time to look at this AI company.

Trust your people especially those that take unpopular positions at great risk on the basis of principle and passion in the face of overwhelming odds! Trust is foundational in meaningful organizations and must be a bidirectional virtue in all we do! “Take the mavericks in your service, the ones that wear rumpled uniforms, look like a bag of mud but have ideas. Protect them. Because if you don't, what you will end up with is conformists. And you will end up with a service that can't fight and can't think." James Mattis Mavericks! 1. Strategic Foresight: Pete Ellis anticipated future conflicts and prepared strategies decades in advance, defying complacency. 2. Technological Innovation: Victor Krulak championed new technologies like the Higgins boat and combat helicopters, revolutionizing military tactics. 3. Cognitive Warfare: John Boyd's OODA loop transformed understanding of decision-making in combat, shifting focus from just physical to mental aspects of warfare. 4. Intellectual Emphasis: Al Gray prioritized education and critical thinking, challenging the traditional focus on physical training alone. 5. New Warfare Domains: Alfred Cunningham recognized the potential of air power early on, pushing the Marines beyond their traditional ground and sea roles.

The best startups are mission driven. A few startups find sustainable business models. Most fail to find models that work over the long term. But, financial outcome is only part of what defines “success” in any venture. While it may not be the outcome the company or its investors wanted, I am sure, the work Mike Slagh and his team did to achieve their mission of transforming the National Security community will be viewed as a success. #onward
Tough news: the Defense Ventures Program is no more. In the spirit of transparency and love for our broader community, here is the note I sent to our 450 alumni this morning.
