When I first learned about Active Directory, I found it hard to picture how it all worked. However, after setting up an Active Directory environment myself, everything finally clicked into place. So, what exactly is an Active Directory? It’s a directory service developed by Microsoft that helps manage and organize users, computers, and other resources in a network. Consider this example; In a school computer lab, an Active Directory enables admins to create and manage student and staff accounts from a single location and sort users into groups like "Students" and "Teachers," each with different permissions. Admins can also set rules for all computers, such as blocking certain websites or ensuring antivirus updates. All lab computers are connected to AD, which allows for easy updates and troubleshooting from a distance. Now, here’s what I did in my setup: • Created a Domain: I set up a domain to manage all network resources and users centrally. • Configured Organizational Units (OUs): I created three OUs—Red Team, Blue Team, and GRC Team—to help organize and manage users more effectively. • Added Users: Within each OU, I set up two user accounts to represent different roles and responsibilities. • Joined Computers to the Domain: I connected several computers to the domain so they could be managed and secured through the Active Directory. • Set Up Group Policies: I applied group policies to ensure consistent security settings and user permissions across the network. This project showed me how Active Directory simplifies and secures network management, making it valuable for any organization. Microsoft Releases Hotfixes to Address Issues Caused by March 2024 Exchange Server Security Updates Key Points: - Apply the April 2024 HU if you're using Exchange Server 2019 CU13/14 or 2016 CU23 and experienced problems after the March 2024 security updates. - Consider migrating to Microsoft 365 for long-term support. Exchange Server 2019 mainstream support has ended, and extended support ends in October 2025. Summary: - Microsoft released optional hotfixes (April 2024 HU) to fix issues caused by the March 2024 security updates for Exchange Server 2019 and 2016. - The hotfixes address problems like: -- Download domains not working in Outlook -- Errors preventing document previews in OWA -- Search issues in Outlook cached mode -- Various problems in OWA (permissions editing, unread envelope icon, templates, published calendars) - Users who haven't experienced these issues and don't need new features (ECC certificates, HMA for OWA/ECP) can wait for the next Exchange Server security update which will include these fixes. - Microsoft is still working on a fix for calendar printing issues in OWA. #CyberSecurity https://lnkd.in/gwgxZhHG
