At Wallis, it has been our pleasure flying with you! “Foxpost, the Hungarian parcel machine market player, can continue its dynamic growth with an international owner after Wallis Group, Trueway (formerly known as Finext) and the founders agreed on the sale of the company. The buyer is a consortium formed by CVC Capital Partners and EMMA Capital Group. The transaction is expected to close in 2024, subject to the fulfilment of all conditions, including the receipt of competition clearance. Foxpost is a true Hungarian start-up success story: it was the first operator in the Hungarian parcel machine market, launching in 2014 with 62 indoor parcel machines. At the start, two of the leading players in the Hungarian private investment market, Wallis Group and Finext, saw the imagination of Foxpost's founders and supported the Hungarian start-up's ambitions with capital and management experience. Foxpost has grown dynamically in recent years and now has more than 1200 parcel machines nationwide. Foxpost has thousands of e-commerce partners and delivered nearly 10 million parcels by 2023. Foxpost's success is another example of Wallis' commitment to supporting new, innovative, market-ready businesses. Together with its investor partner Wallis has supported the company with its financial backing and expertise over the past 10 years, which has now attracted the attention of international investors. Recent examples of high first-day returns: • BigCommerce: 201% in 2020 • Beyond Meat: 163% in 2019 • Castlight Health: 149% in 2014 Keep in mind that to achieve these returns, you need to buy at the offer price and sell immediately. Emerging technology companies and startups working with large retailers don't work well together. After having led partnerships for two large retailers to help accelerate capabilities and growth, what I found was an environment that included: 1) Internal teams that felt they could build it better and faster. 2) A lack of a clear system to manage internal and external expectations and success. 3) A lack of safety by internal teams ("if we go with this tech, our team may not be needed.") My experience with this showed that having even small systems in place with internal stakeholders can help accelerate. For those who have been a part of both sides of the table, what works best? Does it require buy-in all the way to the C-level? What kinds of systems are you putting in place? Cracking the code on this can really help both the tech companies/startups and the retailers be able to address the fast-changing dynamics of retailer and the constantly changing needs of customers.

Will Klarna’s rumoured IPO be a success? IS KLARNA WORTH MORE THAN Snap Inc., Okta OR Robinhood? Klarna, the Stockholm-based buy-now-pay-later (BNPL) fintech is rumoured to be preparing for an IPO later this year, valuing the business at $20bn. Valued at $45bn in 2021, Klarna was the highest-valued European startup. A year later it’s valuation had been slashed by 85% to under $7bn. Since then its been trying to grow efficiently: 🚀 Yearly revenue up from $1.8bn in 2022 to $2.2bn in 2023 🚀 Net losses down from $1bn in 2022 to $310m in 2023 However, does that mean it should be valued alongside Snap Inc. and Zoom? Below is a table comparing Klarna’s Q4 2023 results to that of other, already-public tech companies. Klarna is targeting a valuation similar to those of Snap Inc. and Zoom, both very mature established tech companies generating over $1bn of revenue a quarter (and +$100m of operating income for Zoom), albeit with much slower growth. At the other end of the table is Affirm, another BNPL firm and one of the Klarna’s biggest competitors, which is trading at $11.5bn while having a similar financial profile to Klarna (13% less revenue, but higher growth). Do you think Klarna will end up with a valuation more like Affirm or Zoom? If Klarna are planning a Q3 / Q4 IPO they still have half a year to grow revenue and get back to profitability (they achieved it temporarily in Q3 2023).
