🌟 The verdict is in: Flexibility wins the office attendance poll! 🌟 The results are crystal clear: 46% of respondents opt for flexibility with no set days, highlighting a significant shift in workplace preferences. With only 3% vouching for always onsite, it's evident that the traditional Monday to Friday in the office is no longer the gold standard. What does this tell us? It's a resounding endorsement of the value employees place on their time. In today's competitive talent landscape, offering flexibility isn't just a perk; it's a necessity to attract and retain top talent. Gone are the days when physical presence equated to productivity. The notion that better performance is confined within office walls is debunked by real-world experiences. As I've witnessed firsthand, a full week in the office doesn't always translate to hitting business objectives.

Last month there was a significant increase in return to office mandates from companies within the Fortune 1000. This push is something that we will see develop into 2025 with a stronger directive for a 2-3 day MANDATORY minimum for attendance across many employers who have a local workforce. The idea of differentiating by offering hybrid work environments will still live on but, there will undoubtedly be an inflection point where the market shows office attendance as the norm. So, with that reality, how do companies make work-life more palatable... ? Quite literally by making it more PALATABLE with food at the center of it all! Standardization of attendance means collaboration in meetings, meetings are made that much better with... FOOD Cross departmental brainstorming sessions, war-rooms, and whiteboarding strategy on the "other side" of the office, also made better by... FOOD Productivity, creativity, and engagement in all tasks; made better by... FOOD I'm not saying food is the answer to everything or that it's the magical item that makes your business hum at 90% y-o-y revenue increases. HOWEVER, if you are looking to incentivize your employees to get back to the office or mandating that they do... FOOD is your friend to make the leap enjoyable! Your talent strategy needs to begin wrapping its evolution around that reality, or the competition will do it for you. #foodatwork #corporatelunch #lunchandlearn #officelunch #officeperks #talentstrategy #talentacquisition

Routine beats freedom of choice? The surprising truth about office attendance. We often hear that giving employees complete freedom to choose when to work boosts satisfaction. But when it comes to office attendance, regular routines might be the real game-changer. According to the Colliers Hybrid Work Insights Report 4: ✅ Employees with set office schedules (e.g., specific days each week) spend 1.1 days more per week in the office. ❌ On the other hand, when employees decide entirely on their own, attendance drops by 0.3 to 0.5 days per week. Why? 🔹 A set routine removes daily decision fatigue: When do I go? Should I stay home? 🔹 Predictable days make logistics easier - for teams and individuals alike. 🔹 Regularity helps create habits, and habits drive consistency. The takeaway? Instead of relying solely on total freedom, finding a balance between structure and choice might be the best way to build a connected, productive team. 👉 Does your team have set office days? Or is it more of an open approach? We'd love to hear what works for you! ____ #hybridwork #workplacestrategy #newworkoffices

What will office attendance look like in 2025? Although hybrid work arrangements will remain, office attendance will increase as companies and employees align their expectations for in-office work. According to CBRE’s 2024 Americas Office Occupier Sentiment Survey, 66% of respondents said they expect employees to be in the office three or more days a week, on par with last year’s survey. What is your company’s office attendance expectation for most employees?

Mandatory office days? The latest workplace trend is Coffee Badging ☕️ A friend shared that her colleagues at a large corporation are turning mandatory office days into extended coffee breaks. She said it's hard to focus on deep work with so many distractions at the office. This new habit is called: Coffee Badging. Coffee Badging is when workers show up to the office just long enough to grab a cup of coffee and “earn” an imaginary badge for their attendance, only to head back home to do their actual work. 58% of hybrid workers are participating in coffee badging. In my eyes, this highlights a disconnect between what employees value and the policies companies enforce. Employees are driven to use their time productively, achieving their goals. In our team, we've decided to make the most of our office time: We have collaborative in-person meetings We share insight and best practices We run strategic discussions and workshops We connect on a personal level during coffee breaks and lunch Instead of enforcing rigid attendance, we should create environments where employees feel valued and engaged. After all, a cup of coffee can be more than just a drink; it can be a catalyst for meaningful connections and productivity. What are your habits on mandatory office days?

In the past year, we've observed a significant shift in office attendance patterns, particularly on Mondays, where attendance has surged by over 25%. This increase indicates a growing preference among workers, who once favored remote work, to return to the office at the beginning of the week. Conversely, Fridays present a stark contrast, with office utilization dropping to 84% of last year's levels and just 40% of 2019's. This highlights the enduring popularity of remote work on Fridays, a trend that appears to be gaining traction. The overall weekly trend reveals a steady decline in office attendance as the week progresses, underscoring a notable shift in workplace dynamics. Avison Young | US
