An insightful post from Brandi Salmon Artist, about commissioning culturally appropriate artwork. 💡 Follow these simple principles when commissioning or purchasing art: ▶ Make sure you have the conversation about what is representative of the people and Country you are on. ▶ Always commission a local artist who represents that culture and has cultural authority and respect. ▶ Make sure the artist retains their cultural intellectual property rights - they are the cultural authority, and cultural knowledge belongs to them and their community. #AboriginalArt #culturalintellectualpropertyrights #aboriginalbusiness #culturalprotocols #CulturalRespecttps://https://lnkd.in/gpMSh8j3

Same-height party by artist Hans Hemmert. What if we could all converse at a level playing field? People coming to the party were asked to make a pick from a collection of the blue height-extenders, to get to exactly 2 meters. A social hierarchy removed, opening up new perspectives. At the same time the blue foam extenders formed a sort of living graph of the heights present in the room. The project called 'Level' was executed in the Gebauer Galerie, Berlin in 1997. Hans Hemmert worked on participatory art projects like this one and is known for his room filling balloon pieces and balloon tank. I’ve added an article covering the balloon works in the comments.

Emerging artists often ask what they can do to attract attention for their work, get noticed by galleries, and grow followings that include buyers and collectors. The number one answer, way ahead of the rest, is this: Make art. And more art. And more art. And keep on making it. That's the absolute best way to convince people you're serious about being an artist. Plus the more you make, post, and show in public, the more chances everyone will get to see it and begin to identify YOU as the artist.
