🤭Repeated Empty Words and Promises, merely a cycle. Kudos to the PR intern for crafting these statements. I Joke, Not Really. 👀 In light of recent events, organizations like Oxfam, Save the Children International, Women's Aid Organisation, and Greenpeace have issued statements. But let's be clear: these are not strong stances. They're not even close. Yes, they're naming what's happening, but these are mere outward-facing platitudes. Where are the actionable commitments to change? Where are the tangible steps for stakeholders and communities? It's not enough to just call out injustice – we need action-based commitments. ⚫ What have statements from organisations achieved in the past? The echo of 2020's Black Lives Matter statements still rings hollow – performative gestures with little action to meet their lofty commitments. Most organisations remain far from non-racist, let alone anti-racist, with or without these empty words. As a Black woman, I'm exhausted by the empty rhetoric. We're tired of white-led spaces asking minoritised staff how we're doing – how do you think we're doing? We're exhausted. Racialised employees wanted change yesterday. 🌊 These charities, often steeped in white saviour mentalities, with boards that don't reflect their beneficiaries, what will their statements truly accomplish? Where is their commitment to creating psychologically safe spaces for underserved employees? That's why I created Happiworkers – to combat the lethargy within organisations, to replace broken EAP systems that neither deal with complexity nor offer culturally competent care. We're here to provide the support that racialised employees desperately need and deserve. To these organisations issuing statements: Put your money where your mouth is. Show us real change. Show us commitment. Show us action. Until then, your words are just that – words. And we've had enough of those. It's time for real, tangible, immediate change. It's time for action that speaks louder than any statement ever could. Thank you, Animah Kosai, for bringing attention to these statements. Now, let's push for the action behind them. #RealChange #CulturalCompetence #DiversityAndInclusion #ActionNotWords #Happiworkers

The Fight for Equity Continues! The recent settlement against the Fearless Fund, which supports businesses led by women of color, is not a defeat—it’s a call to action! We must double down on our commitment to racial and gender equity. Programs like Fearless Fund and Magnolia Mother’s Trust are vital in challenging economic disparities. 💡 Less than 1% of venture capital goes to women of color, and Black women earn 64 cents for every white man’s dollar. Yet, we’ve seen the power of targeted support—Black mothers’ financial stress has been cut in half through guaranteed income programs. Funders, here’s how you can help: -Trust Black-led grassroots organizations. -Provide unrestricted funding. -Simplify reporting requirements. -Accept unsolicited proposals. -Do your homework & proactively support these changemakers. Let’s sustain this effort year-round, not just when it's trending. It’s time to stand with Black women and repair the harms of injustice. Together, we can create lasting change! 💪🏿✊🏿 This post is inspired by the article “In the Wake of DEI Attacks, Philanthropy Must Stand with Black Women” by Aisha Nyandoro, CEO of Springboard To Opportunities, published in Center for Effective Philanthropy . #EquityNow #SupportBlackWomen #FearlessFund #RacialJustice #GenderEquity #PhilanthropyForAll

Hi Y’all! 👋🏽 I was lucky enough to catch organizer, Olivia DiNucci (she/her), just before the People's March in Washington D.C. this past weekend. We spoke about the escalating importance of rallying the nation in the struggle against racism, poverty, ecological devastation, and militarism and how activists can find hope in these moments. It was a quick 15-minute conversation packed with good insights! The Poor People’s Campaign organized A National Call for Moral Revival in the nation’s capital on June 29th to uplift and center the needs of the over 135 million poor and low-wage people and workers across the country. The march included demands from elected officials to enact their 17-Point Agenda, which includes living wages, voting rights, and other essential policies that lift from the bottom. Olivia and I spoke about the importance of organizing and community during the incredibly uncertain realities we've already faced in 2024. I hope you enjoy! Listen on Spotify Listen on Apple Podcasts Watch on YouTube Follow Our Podcast 🎧 About Poor People's Campaign In 1968, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and many others called for a “revolution of values” in America. They sought to build a broad, fusion movement that could unite poor and impacted communities across the country. Their name was a direct cry from the underside of history: The Poor People’s Campaign. Today, the Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival has picked up this unfinished work. From Alaska to Arkansas, the Bronx to the border, people are coming together to confront the interlocking evils of systemic racism, poverty, ecological devastation, militarism and the war economy, and the distorted moral narrative of religious nationalism. We understand that as a nation we are at a critical juncture — that we need a movement that will shift the moral narrative, impact policies and elections at every level of government, and build lasting power for poor and impacted people. 🗳️ Do's and Don'ts of Election Time in the Office 🗳️ As the founder of HigherPeople, I believe it’s vital to foster a supportive and inclusive environment, especially with this election. Here are some essential do's and don'ts to keep in mind today as leaders: Do: ✅ Give People Time to Vote Early or on Election Day: Let’s encourage our teams to take the necessary time to participate in the democratic process. Offering flexible schedules can empower our employees to make their voices heard. ✅ Create a Safe Space: This election season can be emotionally charged. As leaders, it’s our responsibility to ensure that all team members feel safe and valued, allowing them to express their thoughts and feelings openly but respectfully. ✅ Provide Resources: Share information about polling places, voting hours, and how to vote early. This can help make the voting process easier for everyone. ✅ Lead by Example: Demonstrate your own commitment to civic engagement by sharing your voting plans and encouraging participation. ✅ Check-In on Your Team: Make a point to ask how your colleagues are feeling. A simple check-in can go a long way in fostering connection. Don't: ❌ Ostracize Anyone: It’s crucial to promote *respectful* dialogue and create an environment that honors diverse perspectives. Disagreement can be constructive, and every voice matters! ❌ Make Assumptions: Avoid assuming someone's political beliefs based on their background or appearance. Engage with each person as an individual. ❌ Not Offer Flexibility to Vote: It’s essential to support your team by allowing them the flexibility they need to participate in the election. Denying this can discourage civic engagement and impact morale. FYI - time to vote is protected by law in most states! By incorporating these guidelines, we can create a workplace culture that embraces diversity, fosters respect, and supports civic engagement. As we navigate this important time, let’s support each other and uphold our values of respect and inclusivity. Happy voting! 🔗: https://www.vote.org/ #ElectionDay #Leadership #WorkplaceInclusivity #DoAndDonts #Empowerment

Many of you asked for it! So I'm delivering it! ❤️ Click on the link below to access your free Guide in Creating a Community-Centered Pitch! This guide, created by 4 Da Hood, was distributed to Social Venture Partners Tucson's 2024 Fast Pitch finalists in January before they began crafting their pitches. On March 26, 2024 at The Fox Theatre, the finalists representing BorderLinks, Inc., The Haven, Casa de los Niños, Parent Aid Child Abuse Prevention Center, TMM Family Services, Interfaith Community Services, Tucson, Children's Clinics, and Special Needs Solutions, pitched their pitches! To say the guide made a difference would be an understatement! ❤️ Each pitch used asset-based language. Each pitch focused on mission/vision even when highlighting a program in many cases. And each pitch ditched the levels of ask, which often come off sounding transactional, and instead made transformative donor asks! These subtle changes made a monumental difference, and made each pitch a community-centered pitch! 🎊 The pitches were uplifting to the folks highlighted in the stories, such as Carolina, Olivia and Jorge Hernandez. The pitches were uplifting to the finalists, I'm convinced because they honored the individuals, families, and communities they spoke about. And the pitches were uplifting to the 1,200 peeps in the audience for, I believe, one of two reasons! Some recognized the shift immediately because I am certain they may have personally been described in deficit-framed ways at some point in their lives. And the others who noticed something different but couldn't put their finger on it, now they know! Communities were honored and uplifted! 🙌🏼 And if you didn't attend, I strongly encourage you to watch the recording! I've tagged SVP Tucson above so you can find your way to it! And if you’re ever looking for a keynote speaker to talk on this subject or on building racial and gender equity in our sector, reach out to me at frank@4dahood.com. Would love to talk! ❤️❤️ #MovingRacialEquityForward #AssetBasedLanguage

Before #GivingTuesday comes to a close, I want to highlight two important organizations founded by amazing women who stepped up to lead in moments of crisis. In 2017, as many women marched on Washington to protest the newly inaugurated Trump administration, Amanda Litman co-founded Run for Something, shortly after publishing her book “Run for Something: A Real-Talk Guide to Fixing the System Yourself.” Run for Something recruits and supports young, diverse progressives to run for down-ballot races in order to build sustainable power for Democrats in all 50 states. Since Nov 5, 2024, they have had more than 10,000 young, progressives sign up to run for office. Support them in creating a more peaceful and just democracy by donating here: https://lnkd.in/gP8c9NXd In 2023, Errika Flood Moultrie founded Connections Multiplied, Too with the mission of building an empowered community of leaders of color, equipping them with the professional advancement and healing needed to transform communities and the world. As our recent presidential election highlighted, we must all support, lift-up, and amplify the work of women of color leaders. As organizations deprioritize and defund DEIB work, Connections Multiplied Too's work is increasingly important. Support this important work here: https://lnkd.in/eJVh-eTE
