Afterschool, vacation, and summer programs were key beneficiaries of federal stimulus dollars. But the expiration of ESSER funds means these types of programs may be first on the chopping block for district spending. In a new op-ed, Emma Banay, manager of the Inspired Minds portfolio, points to the important role high-quality out-of-school-time programs play in children's holistic development. “What’s really special about them isn’t just the opportunity to improve academic skills. It’s that they are — simply put — fun.” Programs from grantees including FIRST, DiscoverE, Learn Fresh, National Inventors Hall of Fame, and National 4-H Council provide academic benefits while also supporting children’s social-emotional development, such as improved interpersonal skills and stronger peer-to-peer and peer-to-adult relationships. That makes them particularly important now. Read more in The 74 Media.

State-level opportunities for dual enrollment or free community college are not new trends but have grown in popularity in recent years. Both states and individual institutions, including private nonprofit universities, are discounting rates to show students college is affordable and within reach. Inside Higher Ed compiled five examples of programs—new, with new features or with innovative aspects—that support high school students’ enrollment and degree attainment through free courses and other supports while they’re still in high school.

Education is one of the most powerful tools we can give to our children. It’s not just about grades or degrees—it’s about opening doors, fostering curiosity, and equipping the next generation with the skills they need to thrive in a rapidly changing world. As parents, guardians, or mentors, our role is to ensure that children have access to quality education and the opportunities they deserve. But preparing for their future requires more than just encouragement; it demands planning and commitment. Setting up education savings plans, scholarships, or even contributing to trust funds for children can be instrumental in reducing the financial burden of tuition fees and associated costs. Early investment provides not only financial security but also the peace of mind that comes from knowing we’re actively shaping their tomorrow. Beyond finances, let’s remember that nurturing a child’s education means supporting their emotional well-being and fostering environments where they feel encouraged to dream big. When we invest in education, we’re not just building their future—we’re building a brighter future for society as a whole. Let’s inspire each other to prioritize and invest in the gift of education. Together, we can create a world where every child has the tools to succeed. How are you investing in the education of the next generation? Let’s discuss!#childeducation #financialsecurity

Note: This article is part of a series exploring a variety of perspectives on this topic. The views expressed here represent a collection of thoughts and ideas intended to spark reflection and conversation—they do not necessarily reflect my own perspective. 🚨 NEW DROP: "Public Education: Seeking Alternatives?" 🚨 Public education is at a pivotal moment, and the stakes couldn’t be higher. When families see rising graduation rates but feel that students are unprepared for the real world, trust begins to waver. When literacy rates remain low in some communities across Washington state, it highlights an urgent need for action🚨. Families don’t care who’s to blame—they want the system to work. And when it doesn’t, they’re left asking: Why shouldn’t we look elsewhere? People are asking: 📢 Why is it so hard to get real results in public schools? 📢 Why do systemic challenges persist, even when solutions are within reach? 📢 How can we embrace innovation as an opportunity rather than a challenge? 🔥 Inside the Article: 🌟 Rebuilding Trust: How public education can move from challenges to action. 🌟 The Stakes for Families: How complex systems and misaligned priorities can lead families to explore alternatives. 🌟 Solutions, Not Excuses: Practical steps schools can take today to rebuild trust and deliver results. 🌟 Why It Matters: When children succeed, communities thrive—and so does public education. 🚀 Here’s the truth: Families don’t focus on the specific roadblocks—whether it’s policies, leadership structures, or resources. They simply want to know their child is receiving the education they deserve. And if public education doesn’t deliver, do families have every right to choose options that will? 💡 There is an opportunity. Let’s come together to protect the promise of public education and ensure that every student and family receives the results they deserve. 👉 Dive in here: https://lnkd.in/gAz5NKEa #EducationMatters #InnovationInEducation #Accountability #StudentSuccess

A great summary of why investing in Early Years Education is so important.
Megan Prior, MD on Instagram: "Supporting young children is THE KEY to solving so many of our country’s problems. Educational performance, physical health and social-emotional resilience is so often determined by how a child is raised during their toddler years. It can be incredibly challenging to alter our life course once this particularly malleable time has passed. 👏Families 👏deserve 👏suppor

Which school is the best I can send my child to? A question that every parent has asked in succeeding generations. The answers coming from most of those who thought very good schools are: Beautiful building, state of art designed, library, swimming pool, gymnasium, computerised system, beautiful uniforms, organise festivals, fetes, blood donation programs, Smartly dressed teachers who speak English/ Hinglish/ others. Large classrooms with ACs accomodating 60 to 80 students, IT supported, modern furniture. Students from super rich communities, families politically and socially connected. 100% results with most of students achieving 95 to 98% and more. Only high achievers are admitted to school. Students scoring 85% and less are rejected. In case they score less, they are removed, or if they are dying to carry the label of Class school- PAY MORE AND PREVAIL. Teachers produce 100% results otherwise they are terminated. PAID TUTIONS AT EXORBITANT FEES CONDUCTED. ENDS JUSTIFY THE MEANS. They dump 8-10 hours of home work. They are highly skilled text book readers, dictate notes, ceaseless drilling of content. No time for questions. If there are questions, take tutions. More than anything else what qualifies a top school rating- patrons who are politicians, carpetbaggers, moneychangers, film world, underworld. Then, I would only think in my view what the best school is: A RICH MIXTURE OF ALL TYPES, AND CLASS OF STUDENTS WHO ARE EMPATHETIC, SHARING, ENDEARING, INCLUSIVE, SELFLESS. A CLASSROOM WHERE THERE IS NOISE OF PUPILS ASKING QUESTIONS TO TEACHERS, GETTING ANSWERS, ASKING EACH OTHER, DISCUSSING ISSUES, THROWING THE TEXTBOOK INTO THE DUST BIN, GENERATE CURIOUSITY, FIND ROUTES OF ENQUIRY, DIG AND DELVE INTO WHAT'S HIDDEN OR UNCLEAR, DIRTY THEIR HANDS MORE OFTEN, TASTE, SMELL, HEAR, FEEL, THINK, COMPARE, CREATE, RECORD DATA, ANALYZE, INTERPRET, DEVELOP PERSPECTIVE, SOLVE PROBLEM. TARGET OF SCHOOLING SHOULD NEVER BE SCORES THAT ARE DIVISIVE BUT LEARNING TOGETHER BE INCLUSIVE. SUBLIME CULMINATING PERFORMANCE SHOULD BE " UNDERSTANDING."

Are You Ready to Reclaim Education? As the government begins to step back, we now have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to reshape education. This is not about waiting for some top-down change; it's about creating change ourselves. This is about empowering local communities to take the reins and design an educational system that works for us, not for Washington elites or the deep state. We can build something entirely new, one that prioritizes freedom, individuality, and the principles that make America great. We can craft an education model that lets our kids thrive in an environment that fosters real-world skills, critical thinking, and personal responsibility. https://lnkd.in/g8uYGuZ3
