Which designer ever looked at a shirt and said let's bedazzle it for the bigger sized customer❗️❓ Genuine question to everyone in the fashion industry, what is it with designers or brands thinking we need to use a black t-shirt with shoulder cut outs and bedazzle it with some glitter or crystals - et voilà the plus size customers are en vogue❓ I can’t help but reflect back to the industry how frustrating it is for the plus size consumer to be confronted with poor fashion choices on the daily. They feel so frustrated about how brands are deciding how a bigger woman should style herself, what she should buy without even thinking about her or consulting her about her wants and needs. Does anyone know when those bedazzled a-line cold-shoulder tops came into style❓ I am honestly interested in debunking this cruelty. I loved the quick mention in this weekend's Phoebe Philo profile on taking at test-and-learn attitude to product and stock, choosing edits and deliveries over seasonal collections. Yes, creating in limited quantities (alongside the high price tag) creates exclusivity and generates demand. BUT it also avoids waste stock & practically guarantees sell-through. Plus, it creates a chance to listen to audiences: what do they like, what are they vibing with, what should you ditch or do more of? There are many smaller independent brands (MaisonCléo, Ffern) who operate like this, so it's great to see a name like Phoebe's in the mix, bringing her fashion fame & aspiration with her. Here's hoping Phoebe's skills in setting trends extend to business as well as fashion... maybe other major players will start to experiment too. https://lnkd.in/eJi___KC
