What is a meal? This is a question I ask all my clients... and they all find it a challenging question! Because we all seem to be fixated on this - thanks to the dieting industry programming us that we need 3 x meals a day + we can have 2 snacks. However, for an ADHDer, this feels overwhelming! Why? Lots of reasons, not least the need to be organised around food! Which is something we can find really hard! On top of that we might have issues because: 👉 we're on meds, some of which reduce the appetite 👉 there may be a lot of foods we don't like because of texture 👉 we don't like cooking or we think we can't cook 👉 we want to lose weight 👉 when we are hungry we want food immediately! 👉 we might go without food all day, then our hunger falls off a cliff and we binge carbs 👉 we have to cook for others but it's food we don't want According to various dictionaries, a meal can be: ✅ the time of eating a portion of food to satisfy appetite ✅ an occasion when people sit down and eat, usually at a regular time. ✅ the food served and eaten especially at one of the customary, regular occasions for taking food during the day, as breakfast, lunch, or supper. ✅ meals are generally larger, more varied, and more filling than snacks. For me, a meal is a portion of food which I find satisfying in the moment - be that a salad bowl made up of leftovers or two homemade protein balls. I am currently writing a chapter of my new book around this question, so I am interested to know what comes up for you when you ask yourself "what is a meal?" And have you ever questioned the current narrative in relation to your own body and brain's needs?

🍴Frozen lasagna for dinner?? Don't mind if I do! 😁 . There's a lot of chatter out there about the "dangers" of processed foods, but let's keep it real...sometimes, they're a lifesaver, especially on those chaotic weeknights when time is short and energy is running low. And for some families, processed foods may be a saving grace, and that's okay! . . As a dietitian and a busy mama, I fully understand the struggle of trying to find the time to prepare a nutritious meal when the house is complete chaos! That's why tonight's culinary masterpiece includes frozen lasagna! It's practical, convenient, and comforting, which is exactly what we all need sometimes. I'm all about finding balance and making choices that work for my family, even if it means turning to the freezer aisle for a little help. . .
