The Great Sale worth waiting for has arrived? Once in a lifetime opportunity? Sadly, I had just returned from South Korea with my mum (who has enjoyed her recent South Korea visit) late last month and cannot go Jeju this week. My surgeon was not supportive of my ambitious thoughts. Still lying on the hospital bed as I type. The South Korean won is at a record low since I first stepped foot on Seoul almost a decade ago and then returned to visit annually almost like a pilgrimage until my mum was complaining about it. 😬 Looking to add to my Korean equity exposure the moment martial law was announced. Unfortunately for me, it was withdrawn even before the markets are opened. 😭😭😭 The Koreans are probably the most pro-business and enterprising in my personal (and likely biased) opinion. They can turn residential areas into tourist attractions and create business opportunities for their people (Gamcheon cultural village in Busan and Bukchon Hanok Village in Seoul), and a crisis into an opportunity (DMZ, the demilitarized zone) for tourism and job creation spurring their economy and GDP. Tapping on the Chinese market, they hired PRC workers to handle the Mandarin speaking crowd that throng the streets of Myeongdong and Dongdaemun. A Korean Lotte staff helpfully asked my mum if she need assistance on the metro platform in Mandarin when he heard my mum clarifying about the destination that we are headed to. We found out that he was a native Korean who was learning Chinese from a friend from PRC. He was very fluent in speaking Mandarin. Absolutely impressive in my opinion. BTFD it will be!
