Ok, I get it that new cars are safer, have more creature comforts and connectivity. Nevertheless back in 1999 an engineer with no University training - Lee Noble - managed to design a car 'in a shed' (his double garage at the end of the garden) weighing 980 kg dry. Yes, ok if you add some fluids you get to 1035 if you're pedantic. And yes it's as kit-car as an F40 but I don't hear anyone complaining to Ferrari. So when I see Porsche doing Space Shuttle stuff to reach ~1400 kg I somehow wonder... Leicester boy versus Stuttgart industry. Leicester wins. Can we please truly go back to lighter cars? All this showboating about high-tech doesn't really catch on and Cybertrucks are next to useless. Either we achieve 1-tonne or let's not brag about it.
