When a yacht is tendered for delivery, new build contracts typically allow a short period of time for an owner to accept or reject a vessel. If a vessel is not accepted or reasonably rejected within the contractual timeframe, the contract will typically include a default mechanism that allows a shipyard to request the classification society to sign off on a vessel based on the minimum safety standards. “Our project managers will have started accepting a yacht a long time before it’s offered for delivery, space by space, system by system,” explains Director of Projects, Kevin Laverty.
