Starting the week en route to the Police Superintendents' Association 2024 Conference. Running over three days, I'm looking forward to talking to senior officers across the country about the importance of Neurodiversity within policing. 👮♂️ Why is it important that we have this conversation about Neurodiversity now?❗ - It's imperative in understanding how to safeguard victims and witnesses - We can protect women and girls from violence - We have the opportunity to break the school-to-prison pipeline - "Half the prison population are neurodivergent" (Ministry of Justice) - We can reduce pressure on the prison system and reduce reoffending - We can reduce the grooming and exploitation of children - We can improve support for staff resulting in reduced staff sickness and improved retention Myself and Caroline Turner will be at the conference talking about how Creased Puddle's specialist policing background can help create positive change. 🧠 🚀

🔎 Why does the police precept matter? The police precept funds essential services that keep Dyfed-Powys safe: ✔️ Emergency response (999 & 101). ✔️ Community policing teams. ✔️ Resources to tackle crime and keep services running smoothly. Without it, maintaining the levels of service you expect would be challenging. Have your say on the precept by completing our survey: https://orlo.uk/aDFrB

Ponder Diversity Group stands united with the City of Chicago and Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) - O'Hare & Midway International Airports in the crucial mission to combat gun violence in Chicago and nationwide. This initiative not only prioritizes public safety but also underscores a moral obligation, especially for communities on the city’s south and west sides. Understanding the intricate factors contributing to gun violence, such as socioeconomic disparities, access to firearms, mental health challenges, social influences, and systemic inequalities, is paramount. Urgent action is essential to address this pressing issue and its severe impact on Black and diverse communities. Efforts to tackle gun violence require holistic approaches encompassing prevention, intervention, enforcement, and community empowerment. These strategies aim to foster safe environments where everyone can flourish without the shadow of fear or harm. Commendations to Mayor Brandon Johnson, the City of Chicago, and CDA Commissioner Jamie Rhee for their unwavering commitment to the well-being and future of all Chicago communities by taking a firm stand to eliminate gun violence once and for all.⚫️ #endgunviolence #epidemic #cityofchicago #chicagodepartmentofaviation #CDA #publicsafety #moralimperative #socialjustice #systemicinequality #equity #communityempowerment

Evening All, Looking for a bit of contemplation with your after dinner coffee? In my latest article with Policing Insight I consider whether it is time policing engaged a wee bit more with Philosophy, and gave serious consideration to what the service is actually for. If you want to have a short evening engagement with Plato, and consider whether it is right that there has been a marked withdrawal of senior policing leaders from civic life and society over the last 30 years then this is the article for you. Many of you saw I was back up at Tulliallan a couple of weeks ago. "When Scottish recruits walk into Tulliallan Castle for the first time, where all training for the country takes place, they walk beneath a large sign that reads ‘Bi Glic, Bi Glic’. This means, from the Gaelic, ‘Be Wise, Be Circumspect’. Maybe we need more wisdom and circumspection, and less acquiescence? More debate, but not polarised vitriol? Yes, policing should change through time, but should this be to the detriment of core principles and its ‘Platonic form’? For me, policing will always at its heart be about serving all without fear or favour in a neutral manner. Quite how that ‘went out of fashion’ is beyond me, but to regain public confidence and get the service back on track embracing these core principles would certainly be a good starting point. Hopefully a subject worthy of some civilised debate." I don't expect everyone to agree with me. That's sort of the point. Debate brings progress. Hope you find the article interesting, and as ever (but especially on this one) all comment welcomed. I really encourage you to register with Policing Insight for access to this, and other excellent articles. If for any reason you cannot a link to the article also follows in the comments below. #police #philosophy #plato #criticalthinking

IF the goal of inprisonment is for convicted individuals to learn from their wrongdoings and to come out as better citizens, what better way to do that than to offer training in high-skilled jobs to ensure employment after release and reduce recidivism?
We love seeing partnerships like the one between Tate County Sheriff’s Office and Northwest Mississippi Community College, providing inmates with education and job skills to help them build better futures and strengthen communities across Mississippi.
