A US$300 Billion global Ed-Tech industry is witnessing good VC interest and several mergers and acquisitions, especially in North America and APAC. As education gets commoditized and institutes start playing the volume game (Institutes with high enrollment and offering multiple disciplines enjoy an advantage with NIRF and NEP), Ed-Tech takes center stage. It was so disturbing to hear statements like, 'Our university has so many thousand students, and Ed Tech, therefore, is a must.' It sounds as if you are in a fish market. The Higher Education narrative is slowly losing its core purpose by recklessly increasing the scale with a cookie-cutter approach to education. We blame the students, but are the teachers ready for the new world order? I argued that a successful Ed-Tech implementation has more to do with the generation of learners, the learning lifecycle, accessibility, serious or fun-based experience, personalization, and eliminating the digital divide. The ed-Tech landscape must expand beyond MOOC, Moodle, Smart Boards, and MS Teams, and soft nontech issues must first be addressed! In short, Ed-Tech must be humane first and tech later. Last week at #ETEDNXT Pune, I was part of a panel discussion on ‘Smart Schools, Smarter Futures: Empowering Maharashtra’s Education Vision with Technology and Innovation.’ I was asked one critical question: What new skills do teachers need to thrive in tech-enabled classrooms? My thoughts: Classrooms are evolving. Automation is taking care of routine tasks like grading and attendance, giving teachers more time to do what they do best—connect with students. This shift demands a new skill set. 1. Teachers as Facilitators Teachers need to become true facilitators. They need to guide students to explore, ask questions, and think critically. At Infinity Schools, we’ve embraced this idea in our Young Product Developer Program, where teachers lead hands-on projects in Robotics, IoT, and AI. These are opportunities to build collaboration, creativity, and resilience in students. Another aspect is emotional intelligence. A teacher’s ability to connect with students personally—to sense when they’re struggling or need encouragement—can transform the learning experience. Especially in tech-rich classrooms, this connection is invaluable. 2. Data Literacy: A Superpower for Personalized Learning Today’s tech-powered classrooms generate incredible amounts of data. But teachers need to know what to do with it. For instance, in our Excellence program, we use analytics to tailor our interventions. If a student is struggling with a specific concept, the data highlights it, enabling the learner as well as our academic team to suggest targeted corrective action. This kind of proactive teaching makes a world of difference. 3. Continuous Learning for Teachers To keep up with these changes, teachers need access to ongoing training. And this training needs to work on two fronts: - Self-Driven Learning: Giving teachers flexible, self-paced resources to upskill on their own time. - Structured Training Programs: Immersive sessions that dive deep into tools and technologies. For example, our Young Product Developer Program includes a 60-hour training that helps teachers understand technologies including robotics, coding, IoT, etc; and also equips them to mentor students through real-world challenges. When teachers are empowered with the right skills, the impact on students is incredible. They are learning to adapt, think critically, and tackle real-world problems with confidence. At its heart, education is about connection—between teachers and students, between skills and opportunities, between today’s classrooms and tomorrow’s world. A big thank you to #ETEducation for the opportunity to share these ideas.
It's an absolute honour to be part of The Economic Times’ EDNXT Pune Conference, where we delved into the significance of tech-powered education. Janardan Singh, Business Head of Infinity Learn Schools, shared valuable insights on the topic, “Smart Schools, Smarter Futures: Empowering Maharashtra's Education with Tech and Innovation.” We’re grateful to be part of such a forward-thinking dialogue, perfectly aligned with our mission to empower learners' progress. Here’s to creating a brighter, smarter future for education! #ETTimesEdNxt #EducationExcellence #SchoolIntegratedProgram #FutureOfLearning #Edtech #Aspirants
