In my last post, I applauded AdventHealth in Florida in dropping its nurse turnover rate from 31% to 19%. I’ll repeat: Bravo AdventHealth! AdventHealth made both big systems changes and big investments in staff to achieve these amazing results.   I mentioned that leaders in healthcare still miss the fact that taking good care of staff is good business, especially if that care is delivered in good systems, loving systems. Evidently, my sharing that we were able to reduce nurse turnover at small, rural, resource limited Gila Regional Medical Center (GRMC) from 27% to 5% over three years implementing 3D Healthcare resonated with people.   I was asked if there were more stories from those early days of 3D Healthcare. Yes, there are many. Here’s another one on improving patient experience, literally a worst to first story.   Improving Patient Experience in Healthcare Through 3D Healthcare & Loving Systems In 2005, Press Ganey had rated the GRMC wellness center dead last in patient experience out of 271 similar facilities nationwide. In addition, as expected, patients were abandoning the center, accelerating losses that had been ongoing for years.   Knowing 94% of outcomes are systems-based, what systems were driving these miserable outcomes? As a collective, we trained staff to make the systems visible for all to see, identify the critical 20% of the systems driving 80% of the dysfunction, and how to fix those systems. With our support (love), demoralized staff dove into fixing the source of their problems.   Moral soared!, as it always does when staff realize they can make a real difference in both their own lives on the job and the lives of their patients.   Rapidly, as systems improved, things turned around. Happy staff were now able to take good care of patients. Word of the turnaround got out to the community and patients began returning to the center.   Within one year, the center added $80,000 to its revenue line and became profitable for the first time in years, maybe ever.   Press Ganey returned to audit the center for patient experience, and it was now in the 96th percentile; the center improved from worse to the top in 12 short months.   More stories to come. 💙 #ALovingOrganization #3DHealthcare #LovingSystems #PatientExperience
