Why is a customer success role in a SaaS company a great start to your career? - You really get to understand customers which is such a key foundation for marketing, product, insights roles and more - You get to interact with people across every team such as product, dev, accounts, and sales which is great for your people skills and for getting to see where you might like to progress your career - You have your finger on the pulse of how a company is performing and can see whether it's a place you want to be longer term - CS is a role where you may not be expected to be a subject matter expert to get the role but you're hired for who you are as a person and what you can learn - If you've studied marketing, product management, business analysis etc it can be really challenging to get your first role, especially in the current environment but with a CS role you get to jam your foot in the door in a great company and show what you can do - You get to learn a bunch of tools that power businesses such as Hubspot, Zendesk, Asana, Jira, Xero etc - It's really satisfying helping people Our vacancies in our customer success team have come about through Rocketspark creating opportunities for the CS team to progress in their career. Issues I have found while job hunting and applying for roles 1) Missing salary details! Competitive is not a number, put a bracket at least 2) Fully remote, but must be within x miles of our HQ. Not fully remote is it.... 3) Ghosting applications- Not acceptable or professional behaviour 4) Advertising jobs which don't exist (We have a candidate we want, but had to advertise externally!) Just wastes everyones time 5) Job title doesn't match description - Sales is not Customer Service! Rant over. For now...

3 reasons I work for Zinc as an SDR (we’re hiring)😎 - Remote working🌴 Although working in the office 1-2 a week is great as you get to actually socialise, working from home is an absolute essential (not just because I can work in tracky bottoms). Don’t think I can work in an office full time ever again. Zinc also encourages us to work abroad for a month, so that speaks for itself. - Growth📈 The company as a whole is growing rapidly allowing everyone here to leap frog their career. For me this is massive as it’s my first office job after retiring from football. - THE best product⚡️ As a salesperson, selling a product that massively changes the way individuals work day to day is worth its weight it gold as opposed to shoving a commodity down someone’s throat. Look what you might do differently: 1) Use LinkedIn Jobs posts (for free) 2) Put the main benefit into the title - in our case, it is the FULL REMOTE opportunity 3) Be honest about conditions and clear about the money And surprise, surprise, by investing 15 minutes, 0 EUR, and a week's waiting time, you actually might get significant results. Now, there is one extra point: Reply to all applicants and give them real feedback.

My first sales job was at Interwoven, the fastest growing software company in Silicon Valley at the time. I wasn’t actually looking for a job. But I bumped into a friend at a Giants game who talked me into applying because he would get a $3K referral bonus. My title was “Corporate Sales Rep.” I was cold calling, cold emailing, and faxing (yup, circa 2000). I loved it: the energy, my peers, the mentorship, and just the chance to be part of a team professionally. I learned some valuable lessons at this first job: 1. The more work you do, the better off you’ll be. 2. Being prepared, having a system, and being organized makes you a little bit better than everyone else. 3. Making connections with people is more than just asking about the weather in their city. For others who are just starting out, or are in the midst of their own professional journey, I’ve found the most impactful opportunities often come from the most unexpected places.
