We're delighted to bring this update to ALMIS Cobalt users, providing an innovative and automated solution to deliver a real-time, true and fair value for interest rate swap activity. 📈 💻   On average, banks and building societies hedge over 30% of their balance sheet using Interest Rate Derivatives. Therefore, our aim with this version was to provide a tool for our users to gain a competitive edge where there is a general lack of transparency and competitiveness. Saving 1bp on a balance sheet of £5bn would result in an additional £150k Net Interest Income. This shows that the competitiveness of a counterparty's pricing needs to be at the forefront of the treasurer's mind.   We believe that constructing a yield curve from actual market transactions, e.g. financial futures trade data, is more accurate and reflective of the real market conditions rather than using screen prices (or indicative prices) for several reasons: Market Reality - Actual trade prices reflect the true consensus value of forward rates at the point of trade, incorporating all available market information and the real balance of supply and demand. The fair value is therefore a truer representation of market conditions and how competitive swap rates actually are by stripping out commercial margins.   Transparency and Reliability - Trades executed in the market provide a verifiable record of transactions, offering transparency and a reliable basis for constructing the yield curve. In contrast, screen prices may not always result in actual trades and can sometimes reflect the aspirations of sellers or buyers rather than actual transaction prices.   Market Dynamics - Actual trades account for the dynamics of market liquidity, credit risk, and investor sentiment, which can significantly influence the interest yield . These factors might not be fully captured by screen prices, which can be more static and not reflect intra-day market movements.
