Florida’s State Attorney's Office for the Eighth Judicial Circuit is the latest state attorney's office to digitally transform with NICE Justice to move cases through the criminal justice system faster. Brian Kramer, State Attorney for the Eighth Judicial Circuit, said, “With NICE Justice, our attorneys and staff will be able to redirect more time, energy and effort into prosecution-oriented activities, instead of managing digital evidence. In addition to supporting successful prosecutions, NICE Justice is going to help us move cases through the criminal justice system faster. Everyone benefits from timelier justice, including courts, defendants and victims, and communities and taxpayers as well.” Read the news here: https://lnkd.in/eUYhymj9 #digitalevidence #digitaltransformation #criminaljustice

The Government is considering scrapping jury trials for certain offenders to tackle the growing court backlog, which has surged to nearly 70,000 cases. Shabana Mahmood, the Justice Secretary, is under pressure to establish an "intermediary" court, comprising a judge and two magistrates, to handle cases with potential sentences of up to two years. Alex Chalk, a former Justice Secretary, supports the mooted reform, saying: "This new court would take an additional cohort of prisoners out of the Crown Court, further easing pressure and securing rapid justice for victims." He added: "If you want to preserve the value and the quality of the jury system, something has to give because at the moment it is being degraded and it is not delivering justice, because justice delayed is justice denied." It is thought that former Lord Chief Justice Lord Burnett, who is advising the Government on a sentencing review, also supports the reform. The proposed changes aim to expedite justice while maintaining fair trial rights, with the potential to remove around 10,000 cases from the backlog. #legal #law #justice #courts #government
