I waited a few weeks before sharing my thoughts on this Forbes' ranking because I wasn't sure how I felt. The easiest repost would have been "I am so proud to work for the Top 1 company, Go Microsoft!!" as many people have done, deservedly so. However, I would like to go deeper. I don't believe in luck, but I've been fortunate enough to be in the two companies that took the top two spots: Google and Microsoft, both great companies that set the bar very high for any future employers I might consider. I firmly believe that there is not one best place to work, there is just the best place to work for you in a certain moment. Today I know Microsoft is the best place I can be now, October 30th, 2024, but I can also acknowledge that it's almost impossible for me to feel the same excitement I felt from 2014 to 2019 when I was part of what Google was back then, when my work felt so meaningful and the company cared enough to make me believe that. Even when I can see why Microsoft is a better employer today, I also know that I will probably not going to be able to achieve all my career goals here, and that's OK, there are things outside our control. But as a leader I will always be inspired to give my best and make people feel as I felt back at Google 10 years ago, trying to bring that Googliness that is still deeply rooted in my mind, or that pride to be HWOps. Truth is that the Microsoft I know today may not be as exciting and amazing as the Google I joined 10 years ago, but it's much better - for me - than the Google I left almost 4 years ago. As I said above, the bar is very high if these two companies are the reference points, but even when a company as a whole can't achieve the same standards, each one of us is responsible of building the culture in our teams, and one thing I can tell for sure is that these two companies with their corporate values gave me the pillars to build upon: Respect (3 Times at Google), Integrity and Accountability, that's really all you need and it's great to have had the opportunity to work for employers where this wasn't just a pamphlet or a poster in the wall, they are values that we live and are encouraged to enforce... as a people manager, I can't ask for more, both Google and Microsoft allowed me to be the kind of manager and, more importantly, person that I strive to be.

Cisco just fired 5,600 employees…and announced record profits ON THE SAME DAY 😱 What kind of dystopia are we living in? Companies are not loyal to employees. They will cut you in a heartbeat if they think it’ll make them more efficient. So listen to me carefully. If your company says your job is safe… Just remember CISCO said that to 5,600 employees in February when they laid off 4,000 people in the first round. So truly, do what is best for you and start CAREER CUSHIONING 🛋️ This is a practice where you work through a plan B and C even if you feel you don’t need it. You just might 🤷♀️ #employeeengagement #employeeexperience #culture #leadership #workculture #worktrends
