The Fundraising Regulator, Charity Commission for England and Wales, and Action Fraud have joined forces to remind people how to give with confidence over the festive period. Christmas is a time when people across the UK are more likely to donate to charity than at any other time of the year. However, donors must remain vigilant. Last year, there were 484 reports of charity-related fraud and cyber-crime, resulting in a total loss of £1,177,773. Those behind these cyber attacks take advantage of public generosity by creating fake appeal websites, sending email appeals that falsely use the names of genuine charities, and launching appeals from fake charities. To help you give safely this Christmas, the regulators have provided simple steps for safer giving:
The festive season is a time of great kindness and generosity. Spread the joy and give to causes close to your heart this December.🎄❤️ Find a charity using our register to donate with confidence: https://lnkd.in/eb_VdcAw #SaferGiving #12DaysOfChristmasGiving

Today is the International Day of Charity – a fantastic opportunity to recognise the amazing work carried out by charitable organisations around the world, and to make a donation if you can. We know there are lots of charities to choose from, but here’s why we’d love you to choose RAPAID: 👉 A casualty can tragically bleed to death within just three to five minutes, often before the emergency services have time to arrive. By equipping cabs with life-saving bandages, RAPAID empowers ordinary people to flag down the vital resources they need to #stopthebleed within those first, critical minutes following an injury. 👉 RAPAID's focus is on stopping the bleed. Your funding helps us extend our mission far and wide, ensuring that emergency bandage kits are accessible in a variety of public places – from schools and taxis to workplaces and other venues. By supporting RAPAID, you're contributing to building a resilient community where people are equipped to help each other in times of crisis. Together, we’re creating a safer UK, one kit at a time. The latest (2023) Give.org Donor Trust Special Report unveils insights on charity trust and accountability derived from a survey of over 3,100 adults in the US and Canada. Key findings reveal that while 70% of participants prioritize trust before donating, only 20% have high trust in charities. In December 2022, veterans organizations (27.9%) and not-for-profit hospitals (27.1%) surpassed religious organizations as the most trusted category for the first time. Following closely were religious organizations (26.1%), animal welfare (25.9%), and social service charities (24.9%). The report highlights the top factors signaling charity trustworthiness: 1) accomplishments shared by the organization; 2) third-party evaluation by an independent entity; 3) name recognition; 4) financial ratios (a top choice for wealthier donors); 5) passion and sincerity in the appeal. #Charity #Trust #Accountability #GiveOrg #Survey #Insights

One of the often overlooked consequences of a cost-of-living crisis is the impact on charities. When people have less, they have less to give. There are 27,000 registered charities in Aotearoa, many of which provide life-changing services to our society's most vulnerable. As discussed in this RNZ piece, too many are now struggling to make ends meet. To all those currently working in the charity/non-profit sector- you are not invisible. Thank you for all that you do. https://lnkd.in/gUcC9r6e
