Congratulations to this years’ OSC Champions!
These are the associates that went above and beyond to service both our internal and external guests this year and received multiple Medallia comments praising the service level provided.
And a special recognition for this year's "Culture Warrior", Laura Zavrl, for continuously going above and beyond for our associates and this hotel.
We are so proud of all your accomplishments, thank you for all that you do!

"Hospitality: The Ultimate Team Sport 🏈 💼"
Have you ever considered how our industry mirrors a championship-winning sports team?
💡 From the front desk staff (our defense) keeping everything to the sales and marketing pros (offense) driving revenue and the managers (coaches) strategizing for success—hospitality is all about teamwork.
💡As someone on the field and in the locker room, I've learned that a great hotel doesn't just operate—it thrives when every player knows their role and feels supported.
So here's my question to all my fellow hoteliers:
💡💡What's ONE thing your team has done recently to go above and beyond for guests—or each other? 🎉💡💡
Let's celebrate wins, share insights, and continue raising the bar for our incredible industry. If you feel inclined, share a story!

GreenSquareAccord has announced receiving 254 nominations for their Gold Star Awards, describing this as an impressive 42% increase over last year’s entries. However, this claim seems somewhat underwhelming, especially considering their workforce size and the upcoming expenditure for the awards ceremony.
To put this in perspective, with an employee base ranging between 1,000 and 5,000, the 254 nominations represent only about 5.08% to 25.4% of their total staff. Last year’s nominations, calculated to be around 179, indicate a low participation rate.
Moreover, it is important to note that these nominations are solely from staff members, with no input from customers or residents. This exclusion is disheartening, particularly considering the crucial role that customers and residents play in the organisation’s operations. Their feedback and recognition would provide a more comprehensive and authentic measure of performance and service quality.
When considering the costs associated with organising and hosting an awards ceremony, including logistics, venue, awards, and lost productivity, one must question the efficiency and impact of this exercise. The expenditure seems extravagant and not necessarily reflective of broad recognition across the organisation.
Given these figures and the lack of customer/resident involvement, it's crucial to consider whether the awards genuinely enhance morale and recognition or if they simply serve as a costly tradition with limited reach. In light of these numbers, the resources allocated to the Gold Star Awards might be better invested in more impactful employee and customer engagement initiatives, or better yet spent making the homes of their residents safe, warm and dry.
We’ve received 254 nominations for our Gold Star Awards, an impressive 42% increase on last year.
Our awards are an important opportunity for us to recognise and reward the colleagues and teams who go above and beyond and enable us provide a great service to our customers.
Our final ceremony will take place on Wednesday 3 July 2024. We can’t wait to crown our winners, good luck everyone!
If you're like us, you want to make sure your team feels seen, valued, and appreciated but your mind is already racing to the next thing.
Next time, try this: ⬇️
When you're finishing up a major project, take a few moments to recognize the people who really stood out and the overall team accomplishment.
Incorporate short segments for recognition into meetings where you spotlight and appreciate people by highlighting their hard work and dedication in general but also calling out specific instances of going above and beyond.
🏆 It doesn't have to be fancy, but it should be meaningful.
You'll likely find that taking time to celebrate is just as important (and healthy) for you as much as it is for your team.

Chances are, you may not have thought about Age Discrimination..? I hadn't either until recently, it seems the older I get, the more I become aware of my own unconscious biases towards getting older.
This was my first time chairing our DEI group, and I really want to drive actions from conversation, so here are my take aways...
One of the many things we discussed was how people (particularly younger people!) are less likely to recruit older people. For me, I certainly recognised this in myself when I recruited for a role in my 20s. Upon reflection, I think I felt threatened and wouldn't know how to manage/lead someone with more experience. My own insecurities could have got in the way of someone else's opportunity.
I've been doing some self-reflection, and have so far committed to the below as a starting point:
1. Stop looking at the education section of CVs to gauge how old a candidate is...age is not an indication of maturity Catherine! 🤦🏽♀️
2. If I find myself interviewing someone older than me, don't be threatened by it. Different experiences make strong teams (you should know this by now Catherine!)💪🏽
3. Be age inclusive: recruit from all age groups, create an environment for shared learning, plus identity and support issues specific to older workers 👌🏽
4. Use age inclusive language: older and younger. No need for anything else 🗣
Thank you again to everyone involved! I'm already looking forward to the next 🙌🏽

Organizations and leaders of people can do so many right and good things to make a work place a “good place to work”. But if we do not practice this one thing, it’s impossible to be a GREAT place to work!
And it’s this…. Understanding and PRACTICING Appreciation. It’s important to know the difference between Appreciation and Recognition.
Recognition is focused on a person’s achievements where Appreciation is an expression for their value as a person.
It’s important that we take time to learn others language of appreciation… how do they best hear and receive being appreciated. Do you know your own appreciation language?
What are ways that you have felt appreciated at work? We’d love to hear from you.
