Today we reflect on and celebrate Indigenous traditions and heritage, in recognition of International Day of World’s Indigenous Peoples.
Indigenous peoples of the world are creators, inheritors and practitioners of rich, sophisticated and unique cultures and ways of sharing knowledge.
This year’s theme is protecting the rights of indigenous peoples and one of those rights is the right to be different.
Indigenous peoples of this continent are the oldest story tellers in the world.
In Kauwirlta, Uncle Mickey Kumatpi O’Brien is sharing a story- an old story which recognises diverse identities and the right to be different, but also celebrate similarities: https://lnkd.in/g7Q5yKtu
DISCUSSION ON RUSSIA SANCTIONS IMPLEMENTATION IN THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT
Yesterday, it was our great pleasure to present our common #PolicyPaper with Prague Security Studies Institute, AMO - Association for International Affairs and Lobbio on #Russia sanctions implementation to members of European Parliament, European Commission and European External Action Service and other relevant EU institutions and NGOs:
https://lnkd.in/eajjXEdi
Appart from that, it was great to listen to Jiri Skuhrovec of Datlab s.r.o. who presented his analytics and outlined the scale of the problem, which he revealed when using his analytical instruments monitoring the #Russian efforts to bypass the #European sanction regime.
Thanks to a great cooperation with Markéta Gregorová and her team, we managed to get to the room the most outstanding thinkers and policy makers on the topic, including the #EU's Special Envoy on Sanction Implementation David O'Sullivan or SCHUEBEL Dirk (Relex), the Head of the Russia Division at the #EEAS. It was also great to reconnect with Adela Kabrtova of the DG Fisma, a person very dear to us in AMO throughout a common history of work :)
Overall, it was really great to listen to all the relevant stakeholders who reminded of several key moments:
- One of the key commodities is the issue of political will to do more and dedicate more resources to the issue, which is still lagging behind the approach of the #US, both in terms of the efficiency, monitoring and listings,
- Sanctions against #Kremlin actually work, the Russian economy is overheating, suffering from high levels of inflations (and extremely high basic rate of the Russian Central Bank) but we still need to do more and better to let them feel this even more!
- We need to be more present and vigilant when working with third parties, including most notably #China / #PRC and #Belarus, which represents two major loopholes in our systems, much more needs to be done there. However, it is also essential to realise that these are our own ideas and regimes, which are imposed unilateraly and we need to persuade the others to do more with us,
- There are more sanction packages to come, #energy remains a crucial issue, which we need to spend more time on processing, especially when minding the scale of inflow of money into #Russia, which according to some estimates goes up to 40 % of the national budget (rougly a similar figure that the #Kremlin spends on the war too...)
- And finally, we cannot forget about the issue of #Trump and him entering the office in several months time, which might pose a challenge to the #EU and #Western approach to Russia as well as sanctions, which might be up for negotiations and making deals around - and there, the #EU needs to be ready to step up and keep up its own regime in case of change in the US!

Well said Omaya!
