Get ready as #Devo is coming to a place near you! How that looks and what it’s for are the BIG questions we need to tackle BUT there is no doubt devolution can deliver real #change #growth #prosperity @devo@inflect
Are Metro Mayors Ready to Deliver Real Change? #Devolution is expanding, and metro mayors are taking centre stage in England’s governance. But with limited powers and rigid funding, can they truly lead regional transformation—or are they just extensions of Westminster? Metro mayors are stepping into the spotlight, with two-thirds of England to be under devolution deals by 2025. They’ve proven to be effective advocates and coordinators for their regions—but do they have the tools to deliver real change? While new block grants offer more control, funding is still tightly tied to Westminster’s priorities, limiting flexibility. Metro mayors could do so much more with real autonomy—wider control over budgets, powers to address regional challenges, and the freedom to innovate. If we’re serious about devolution, now’s the time to empower metro mayors to be more than delivery arms for national policy. Check out my new blog for Inflect: https://lnkd.in/eTcPUrXg

It was great to work with Hammersmith & Fulham Council on the launch of the second phase of their pioneering industrial strategy, #UpstreamLondon – an exciting new chapter in H&F’s mission-led journey toward inclusive economic growth. 🚀 Over the past seven years, Hammersmith & Fulham has focussed on driving transformative change. Launching a unique local industrial strategy in 2017 with Imperial College London, H&F have created a cluster of Science, Technology, Engineering, Media, and Medicine (#STEM³) businesses. They have attracted over £6 billion in investment, helped to create over 8,000 jobs in high-growth businesses and increased opportunities within the community, working closely with partners across the Borough. 📄 The launch celebrated the publication of a White Paper, unveiling the Borough’s bold commitment to a strategy that benefits every resident, collaborates with local and global partners, and prioritises sustainable, inclusive growth. The Upstream Pathway Bond, also announced at the launch, will support local residents to upskill, building their careers and fostering community spirit among residents and partnering businesses. 🗣️We were delighted to hear from Stephen Cowan 🇬🇧🇺🇦, Leader of the Council, Baroness Sharon Taylor, Lords Minister for Housing and Local Government, Professor Hugh Brady, President of Imperial, Anna Perdrix Rosell, the CEO of a fast-growing company based in the innovation district, and Badriyyah and Hannah, two young people who grew up in or around the Borough. 👏 A special thank you to everyone who helped make this event happen, including Nick Buckley at Reach UK, Tyson Joseph at Stories Like Us, Martin Huxley Design and Will Mower. Check out an overview of the work Hammersmith & Fulham have been doing below. We look forward to continuing our work with the team at H&F and the success of #UpstreamLondon

This is exciting news for our region. The message from Number 10 was simple - More autonomy = more prosperity. There was a clear commitment for more powers to be handed down from Whitehall to our communities in the LCR. It’s clear that our region thrives when local leaders make decisions. Since 2017, Steve Rotheram has driven significant positive change and progress across all our communities. Let’s reflect on what’s been achieved via Liverpool City Region Combined Authority so far: 🚆 Transport Revolution: Spearheaded the introduction of new, state-of-the-art trains on the Merseyrail network, enhancing the commuter experience and improving connectivity across the region. 🏗️ Economic Growth: Successfully attracted substantial investment, creating thousands of jobs and supporting local businesses. His leadership in establishing the £75 million Business Growth Package has been instrumental in fostering economic resilience and innovation. 🌳 Green Initiatives: Launched the Green Investment Fund to combat climate change and promote sustainable development. His vision has paved the way for cleaner air, greener spaces, and a commitment to net-zero carbon emissions by 2040. 🏠 Affordable Housing: Delivered on promises to increase affordable housing, ensuring more families have access to quality homes. The Brownfield Land Fund has unlocked land for the construction of over 5,000 homes, addressing critical housing shortages. 🎓 Skills and Education: Championed the £54 million Adult Education Budget, providing thousands of residents with opportunities for skills development and lifelong learning. His initiatives have opened doors for many to secure better jobs and brighter futures. 📈Inclusive Growth: Advocated for social justice and inclusivity, ensuring that the benefits of growth are shared widely. His Inclusive Growth Plan focuses on reducing inequalities and building a fairer society for all. Steve’s tenure as Metro Mayor has been marked by visionary leadership and tangible results. He’s proven that our region has the ability to shape its own legacy outside of Whitehall. With more powers being handed down from Whitehall, it’s vital that we ensure that our business communities voice is heard loud and clear as we shape a new future for our region. We have a real opportunity for change and I’m so excited to see what happens next! #Leadership #LiverpoolCityRegion #SustainableGrowth #Devolution #InclusiveEconomy
