Today is #EarthDay 🌍 , so in addition to regular activities like turning off the faucet when I brush my teeth or take a shower, switching off lights when not needed, or using public transportation, I am delighted to join my KOIA gang in the tree 🌳 #planting action... and our the Board has doubled the number of planted trees to make our action even more impactful! 🙌 I believe this will become our tradition 💪 Thank you KOIA Team! 🌲 Let's remember to take care of old trees in our living areas and prevent their cutting down because what we plant takes many years to become a fully mature tree. Pine, birch, and linden are species that grow quickly and reach the sapling stage at the age of 10-15 years, while beech, oak, and fir are species that grow much slower and reach this stage at the age of 20-30 years. 🚀 Introducing Our Second-Year Project: VateLanka 🚀 We are proud to unveil VateLanka, a Smart Waste Collection and Recycling System built to address Sri Lanka’s growing waste management challenges while promoting sustainable urban living. This project focuses on: ✅ Real-time GPS Tracking for optimized garbage truck routes. ✅ Mobile App for households to manage waste collection schedules, report missed pickups, and access recycling guidelines. ✅ Efficient Resource Management tools for municipal supervisors to enhance operations. ✅ Recycling Transparency to foster environmental accountability. Our journey wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible support of our supervisor, Ms. Fathima Farhath, whose guidance has been instrumental to this project. A special thanks to Mr. Kushan Bhareti and Mr. Deshan Sumanathilaka for their insightful advice and feedback during the critical stages of our work. We are also deeply grateful to Mr. Banu Athuraliya for his exceptional leadership and unwavering support throughout this journey.
