E.ON Next have agreed to pay £14.5m for failing to send final bills to prepayment meter customers within 6 weeks of the supplier transfer or termination of the Domestic Supply Contract, as required by Standard Licence Condition, between February 2021 and September 2023. Prepayment meter customers are often vulnerable customers. As vulnerable customers may be less able to protect themselves or represent their interests within the supply contract relationship, it is particularly important that suppliers comply with these regulations. Hello Ministry of Transport (New Zealand) - Te Manatū Waka I would like to strongly ask you to reconsider Road User Charges (RUC) entirely. Existing RUC should be replaced by adding excise tax to diesel. Transport funding should come in equal portions from four sources: 1 Petrol/Diesel tax ($2.5b) 2 Vehicle licensing fees (Rego) ($2.5b) 3 Local government funding ($2.5b) 4 Central government funding ($2.5b) Removing diesel RUC would mean higher diesel prices and a roughly doubling of annual vehicle registration fees. There are approximately 5 million vehicles in New Zealand. An average annual registration of $500 per vehicle (+ACC) is enough to cover it. This could vary based on the value of the vehicle from between $250 to $1,000 for commercial and high value vehicles. No need for any RUC. No need to track mileage. No intrusions on privacy. No need to have sensors all over the country or gps trackers in cars. None of that is necessary. That is far more preferrable to installing privacy invasive vehicle tracking technology on every vehicle in the country. There is no logical reason to do that when we have simple and well established methods to pay for roads. Simeon Brown
The Government is working on changing the way most Kiwis pay for their road use, moving away from paying fuel taxes at the pump to paying distance-based road user charges. We want to hear from businesses that can provide simple solutions allowing people to easily pay, measure or manage road user charges. We have released a Request for Information (RFI) on GETS and are seeking responses from a wide range of businesses - from software, technology, telematic and electronic systems providers to utilities, financial services providers, fuel companies, supermarkets, and other over-the-counter retailers. 📢 SFC Reprimands and Fines Type 1 Licensed Corporation HK$3.99 Million for Serious FRR-related Regulatory Breaches 📢 On Monday 30th September 2024, the Securities and Futures Commission (“SFC”) reprimanded and imposed a fine of HK$3.99 million on a Type 1 Licensed Corporation (“the Company”) for failures in complying with the Securities and Futures (Financial Resources) Rules (“FRR Rules”) and other serious regulatory breaches. SFC’s investigations found that : ❌ The Company breached the FRR rules by not maintaining the required minimum liquid capital between February and April 2021; and again from July 2022 onwards; ❌ During the aforementioned period, the Company relied on its debtor repayments without agreed payment schedules to cover its operating expenses and maintain its required minimum capital. However certain repayments were insufficient to meet these expenses, thus the Company fell into deficit; ❌ The Company repledged some of its client securities collateral to its execution broker over a 17-month period without a valid standing authority from the clients; ❌ In repledging the securities, the Company failed to ensure that the total market value of the repledged securities did not exceed the regulatory limit; ❌ The Company further provided financial accommodation amounting to HK$15.6 million to 2 new clients using borrowed funds and without implementing proper credit controls and risk management procedures; and ❌ The Company failed to notify the SFC of changes to its holding company’s shareholding structure within 7 business days as required. SFC concluded that the various regulatory breaches demonstrated lack of due diligence, adequate compliance arrangements and proper asset safeguarding within the Company’s practices as it was in violation of numerous regulatory provisions such as the FRR Rules, the SFC Information Rules and the general Principles of the SFC Code of Conduct. Accordingly, the SFC deemed the sanctions as appropriate given the gravity of the misconduct. Licensed Corporation are reminded of the obligation to maintain compliance policies and internal procedures that ensure that they are able to adhere to various regulatory requirements that are applicable to them.
