As a contractor in the construction industry, you’re probably no stranger to long hours, constant phone calls, and dealing with clients, suppliers, and employees. It feels like your business demands your attention every moment of the day, leaving little time for yourself or your family.
You might be asking yourself,
𝐻𝑜𝑤 𝑑𝑜 𝐼 𝑘𝑒𝑒𝑝 𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑠 𝑢𝑝 𝑤𝑖𝑡ℎ𝑜𝑢𝑡 𝑏𝑢𝑟𝑛𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑜𝑢𝑡?
𝐼𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑒 𝑎 𝑤𝑎𝑦 𝑡𝑜 𝑓𝑖𝑛𝑑 𝑏𝑎𝑙𝑎𝑛𝑐𝑒 𝑏𝑒𝑡𝑤𝑒𝑒𝑛 𝑚𝑦 𝑏𝑢𝑠𝑖𝑛𝑒𝑠𝑠 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑝𝑒𝑟𝑠𝑜𝑛𝑎𝑙 𝑙𝑖𝑓𝑒?
The answer is 𝐲𝐞𝐬. Finding balance is possible.
Imagine this: You wake up early and immediately jump into work mode. Your phone starts ringing with questions from your crew and clients, and you're on the job site from sun up to sundown.
But even after the workday ends, you’re still working—reviewing invoices, managing payroll, trying to make sense of your cash flow. Your evenings are spent catching up on paperwork, and by the time you’re done, there’s no energy left for your family or personal time.
This constant hustle can leave you feeling overwhelmed and disconnected from the parts of your life that matter most.
I understand the concerns you might have:
“𝐼 𝑐𝑎𝑛’𝑡 𝑎𝑓𝑓𝑜𝑟𝑑 𝑡𝑜 𝑠𝑡𝑒𝑝 𝑎𝑤𝑎𝑦 𝑓𝑟𝑜𝑚 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑏𝑢𝑠𝑖𝑛𝑒𝑠𝑠; 𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑦𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑑𝑒𝑝𝑒𝑛𝑑𝑠 𝑜𝑛 𝑚𝑒.”
“𝑇ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑒’𝑠 𝑡𝑜𝑜 𝑚𝑢𝑐ℎ 𝑡𝑜 ℎ𝑎𝑛𝑑𝑙𝑒—ℎ𝑜𝑤 𝑐𝑎𝑛 𝐼 𝑏𝑎𝑙𝑎𝑛𝑐𝑒 𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑦𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑔?”
“𝐼𝑓 𝐼 𝑑𝑜𝑛’𝑡 𝑡𝑎𝑘𝑒 𝑐𝑎𝑟𝑒 𝑜𝑓 𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑦 𝑑𝑒𝑡𝑎𝑖𝑙, 𝑠𝑜𝑚𝑒𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑤𝑖𝑙𝑙 𝑔𝑜 𝑤𝑟𝑜𝑛𝑔.”
These are real fears, but continuing down this path can lead to burnout, stress, and strained relationships.

Former Owner/Optometrist at Northwest Vision Center
4moI’ve tried many different modes over the years and at this point in life, I’m loving Rural Health Care😎 I tried my best to keep a PP going that I had with my brother but without him (RIP Dallas), I just couldn’t do it anymore (tried for 4 years, through COVID, it was daunting). My standard joke is that when I go to wash my hands, I don’t have to worry that we’re running out of paper towels or not (practice owners usually understand this!). Small things add up to big compounded worries!
