🕒 **Time Management Tip: Scheduling Family Time is a Game-Changer!** I used to scoff at the idea of booking family time into my diary—how hectic must life be to require such scheduling? But as time passed, I realized the wisdom behind this advice. In our busy lives, it's easy to be in the same house yet isolated in different rooms, absorbed in our own worlds of screens and tasks. All the spontaneous "family time" I envisioned often slipped away unused. But everything changed when I began to intentionally plan for it. Whether it was game nights or outdoor activities, scheduling family time brought joy and appreciation back into our lives. This realization struck harder as I missed out on years of potential forest bike rides with my family, only realizing my youngest had outgrown the kid seat by the time I installed it. Time flies, and moments missed don’t return. For entrepreneurs, integrating good habits in personal life is as critical as in business. Happiness and success at home directly enhance our productivity and fulfillment at work. The correlation between well-managed personal life and business performance is undeniable. I used to work a very early shift (5am-1:30pm) and having to drive 45 minutes (one way) to work at 4am in the morning, it was hard to sleep in on your days off. When working these type of hours in a call center, it was hard to have a work/life/ balance. Sure, taking PTO or playing hooky (using sick time) was just not enough. Until the company went home based in 2015, I said to myself, oh man…. That’s definitely going to be a change but there were positives to go with it. I thought working from home would be tough, knowing the fridge was near by, tv on the wall or playing music was gonna be tough, it was all disapline. The positives- didn’t have to get up so early, didn’t have to drive, go walking with the dog (when weather permitted in Arizona) Since leaving the company and starting my own business, working my own hours and making sure my work responsibilities are done, life is SO much easier. That’s what I want to do for clients who need bookkeeping services. Giving you the freedom to have a work/life/balance. You don’t have to make your business your entire life. There’s nothing more important than taking care of yourself and spending time with family but making sure work is done. Small business are important for our communities. I’ve been at American Tax & Business Planning for nearly 12 years. Most of my team has only been here for 5 years or less. That means they weren’t here to witness the early days filled with sacrifice and struggle. They didn’t see me working most weekends. They didn’t see me struggle to balance my life. They didn’t see me put everything I had into this company, year after year. And I’m glad they weren’t. I don’t want them to know that kind of imbalance or stress. I’ve worked very hard to build a culture that doesn’t emulate exhaustion or burnout. But recently, I’ve realized that I can only protect them for so long. There will inevitably be some hard days. There will be moments of stress and exhaustion. Hopefully not too many, but at some point, that’s just how business goes. Boundaries are important, but so is autonomy. And if I want to prioritize some of that life balance for myself, it inevitably means I’ll need to loosen my grip on the reins and give my team the agency and freedom to do things on their own. Some days, that’s an easier goal to achieve. Others, I struggle to delegate. But as leaders, we need to keep trying. It’s the only way to build a company that stands on its own two feet.
