The European Union and ASEAN (The ASEAN Secretariat) have committed to "enhancing connectivity within and between" their regions, with a strong focus on sustainability, climate action, digitalisation, and gender equality. Intra-regional mobility and people-to-people connections are key strategies for fostering community building in Southeast Asia, as outlined in the Master Plan on ASEAN Connectivity 2025 and the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community Blueprint 2025. Obviously Sustainable Sustainable is excited to announce our recent collaboration with Nuffic Southeast Asia and DAAD German Academic Exchange Service on developing a Baseline Study for the EU-ASEAN Sustainable Connectivity Package (SCOPE) in Higher Education. This study aims to establish a comprehensive understanding of the current landscape of academic mobility within ASEAN and between ASEAN and the EU. Thank you, Nuffic Southeast Asia for the collaboration!

With the release of our latest special issue on SDG 4 with the International Journal of Educational Development, I'm pleased to share this piece I co-authored with Niaz Asadullah and Kazi Md Mukitul Islam. As we move the U.N. development agenda forward, it's imperative to consider the cross-cutting theme of gender, and the value of finding interlinkages across our global goals

Lesson learned 👩🏫 from recent Mutual Learning Webinar given by Yellow Window Design with topic: 🎓 Mobilizing Students for Structural Change: 🗨 Empowering Tomorrow's Leaders: In universities, students aren't just learners; they're agents of change. By mobilizing them, we transform campus climates, raise awareness of gender bias, and make gender equality mechanisms more visible and accessible. 🧑 🧒 Students foster inclusive dialogue, expand gender knowledge, and empower themselves to make unbiased decisions. Let's harness their energy 🔋 to build a more equitable future. #StudentEmpowerment #GenderEquality Pertners: Yellow Window Design, Czech University of Life Sciences Prague, Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Nők a Tudományban Egyesület/ Association of Hungarian Women in Science, Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya and Faculty of management, University of Primorska

🌍 Eliminating Gender Disparities in Education 🌍 During the first trimester of my MSc, I had the incredible opportunity to delve into Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4.5, focusing on eliminating gender disparities in education. Under the guidance of our lecturer Frances MacInnes, I embarked on a journey of discovery and storytelling that truly enlightened me. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), established by the United Nations, aim to address global challenges and achieve a better and more sustainable future for all by 2030. They cover a broad range of issues including poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace, and justice. Before this course, I had little knowledge of the SDGs. However, the MSkills course, led by Frances, highlighted their importance and the power of storytelling in conveying their significance. We were challenged to create a digital story for our chosen SDG, which became a transformative experience for me. For my assignment, I focused on an aspect of SDG 4.5 which aims to eliminate gender disparity and ensure equal access to all levels of education. This goal is pivotal in achieving gender equality and empowering women and girls. The project not only deepened my understanding of global educational disparities but also enhanced my research and storytelling skills. You can watch the digital story I created for this assignment on YouTube. I hope it inspires others to learn more about the SDGs and take action towards a more equitable world. #SSETS #BeforeAndAfterWithSSETS #MySDGfocusWithSSETS My research expertise aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) they include Quality Education (SDG 4), Gender Equality (SDG 5), Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure (SDG 9), and Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17). These key areas address critical global challenges and contribute to sustainable development, economic growth, and social equity. First is quality education: my primary focus is using innovative educational technologies and effective pedagogical methods for teaching in the 21st century. To redefine the learning experience among teachers and students. Second is gender equality (SDG 5) I focus on initiatives that provide women and girls with equal opportunities in education, I aim to advocate for the reduction of gender disparities in rural communities in the North-East. Third, is Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure (SDG 9).This area is motivated by the inspiration i have drawn from the SSETS programme that emphasises the START PRINCIPLE which is hinged on sustainability, technology, accessibility, replicability and transaparency. Last is partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17). I have recognised the importance of global and strategic collaboration, stakeholders such as industries and government agencies. I have a drive to promote international cooperation to address global challenges. My work in this area ensures that sustainable development initiatives are well-funded and that progress is tracked through reliable data, fostering transparency and accountability. Through the aforementioned, I aim to contribute to a more sustainable, equitable, and inclusive world, reaching out to rural communities and vulnerable groups to ensure that the benefits of my research are widely shared. Two academics I have connected with as a result of the #SSETS programme are #Prof. Aisha Abdulkadir and #Dr Clinton David An NGO that aligns with my area of interest is #Development Africa. The industry partner that aligns with my goals is #TY Danjuma Foundation, the government agency that further aligns with my interest is the #National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA). Lastly, a professional body that underscores my research interest is #International Association for Innovations in Educational Assessment (IAIIEA). I commend the efforts of the extraordinary facilitators Dr Akanimo Odon and Dr. Viola Akhigbe who have been consistent every week and pushing me to greatness.I also appreciate the university lead Prof. Chibiya Paul Shinggu (Federal University Wukari) for nominating me to be part of this life changing experience. Recently, United Nations Global Goals for Sustainable Development revealed that progress towards Goal 4, Quality Education, was already slower than required before COVID-19, but the pandemic has had devastating impacts on education, causing learning losses in four out of five of the 104 countries studied. Education is a powerful tool for breaking the cycle of poverty and promoting sustainable development. It helps to reduce inequalities and to reach gender equality. It also empowers people everywhere to live more healthy and sustainable lives. Education is also crucial to fostering tolerance between people and contributes to more peaceful societies. Read the full update here and join us in supporting Goal 4 for inclusive and equitable quality education. #GlobalGoals

I will be giving a keynote talk this Monday on the pivotal role of education and training for the Sustainable Development Agenda 2030, alongside UNITAR and UNDESA, at the UN High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF). 🌍 When it comes to development and building a better intergenerational future, one that is inclusive, fair, and focuses on wellbeing, education is our superpower! For every additional year of schooling, an individual’s earnings increase by an average of 10%. Quality education has the power to lift people out of poverty and create more equitable societies. Studies show that students who receive environmental education are 20% more likely to engage in sustainable behaviors, influencing their communities positively. Educating girls is one of the most powerful tools for achieving gender equality. For instance, every extra year of education for girls increases their future earnings by 10-20%. The list goes on However, we are not there (yet). Technology, and the coming AI wave, can help us make education more accessible to all. But this needs government and the private sector to work together, in ways they never did before. I call this, DPPP (The Digital Public Private Partnerships). How this could work, commercially, regulatory, and for public value, is the subject of my talk #SustainableDevelopment #Education #SDGs #HLPF #UNITAR #UNDESA #2030Agenda #GreenEconomy #GlobalGoals #Empowerment #ClimateAction Posterity Institute United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) United Nations Project Office on Governance (UNPOG)/DPADM/UN DESA
