Congratulations to Tim Hunter of NBR - National Business Review, crowned as the 2024 Business Journalist of the Year at the NZSA Business Journalism Awards! Proudly hosted by the New Zealand Shareholders' Association (NZSA) and generously supported by Simplicity and NZX Limited, these awards continue to celebrate excellence in New Zealand Business Journalism. The competition saw outstanding entries across all categories, with winners including Matt Nippert (Business News), Tim Hunter (Business Commentary), and Cécile Meier (Business Features). We're particularly excited to congratulate Kate McVicar of NBR on winning the Emerging Business Journalist of the Year award - representing the bright future of business journalism in New Zealand. Looking ahead to 2025, NZSA will expand the awards to include a new multimedia category, embracing modern journalism formats like podcasts and visual reporting. As our CEO Oliver Mander notes, "In the same way that we argue for all investors to be allowed access onto a level playing field, we think it's only fair that those specialising in multimedia journalism are afforded the same opportunity." This seventh edition of the Awards reinforces NZSA's commitment to supporting quality business journalism in an evolving media landscape. "NZSA continues to support a strong business media that creates transparency and holds business to account," says Mander. #BusinessJournalism #NZSA #NZBusiness #Journalism #BusinessNews #MediaAwards #NZSAEvent #BusinessJournalismAwards

An announcement from Vinod Rajasekaran, Future of Good's CEO & Editor-in-Chief: I’m excited to share the news that the Canada Revenue Agency has designated Future of Good a Qualified Canadian Journalism Organization (QCJO)—a milestone achievement in our fifth year. I never expected a letter from the CRA to deliver such a “pinch me” moment. The news felt surreal. I couldn’t sleep that night. I was wired, excited, and imagining all the possibilities as a result of this designation. It took hundreds of hours of work, but it happened and will be game-changing for Future of Good. Being designated a Qualified Canadian Journalism Organization (QCJO) means that Future of Good has gone through rounds of reviews and assessments, including an evaluation by an independent advisory board that looked deeply at our content, whether it's original, whether it meets journalistic standards and principles, and, most importantly, whether it benefits all Canadians. It’s a proud moment for our team. It validates our original journalism, journalistic standards, and the fact that our journalism can benefit Canadians coast to coast to coast—a real first for social purpose and solutions journalism. This designation is a proud moment for Future of Good and a testament to our team’s passion, commitment, and work. Please join me in thanking our entire team for their dedication and hard work in helping us reach this monumental milestone, as well as all our members, partners, and advisors for trusting Future of Good to be an essential professional resource for your work and teams. RNZ and Pacific Media Network (PMN) will partner on a 12-month pilot to retain Pasifika talent in the industry and bolster coverage of Pasifika issues. As part of the pilot, two Pasifika journalism graduates will join PMN for a year, with funding provided by RNZ. RNZ Chief Executive and Editor in Chief Paul Thomson said RNZ’s funding of the pilot was consistent with the organisation’s commitment to deepening its connections with other public media entities and growing Pasifika audiences. “We have a strategic objective to foster a strong national identity by providing trusted content and reflecting the diverse communities of Aotearoa and talent retention schemes such as these allow journalists who work in their communities to continue to tell the varied stories of Aotearoa.” The pilot comes at a time when the Te Rito Journalism project cadet scheme is coming to an end and PMN Chief Executive Don Mann said it was vital that opportunities for the development of a pool of quality Pacific journalists continues. “We have more than 8 percent of New Zealand’s population identifying as being of Pacific ethnicity but less than 2 percent of journalists identify as Pacific. “Developing a pipeline of excellent Pacific journalists is a core strategic objective of PMN, a function we have performed for over 30 years. Strategic partnerships like this one with RNZ demonstrates our collective commitment to the sector as whole.” Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gfPeaWFv #pacificmedia #publicmedia
