Good news – more tickets are now available for the panel discussions at our inaugural Cawthron Freshwater Champions Forum in Wellington on 23 May. Freshwater Champions assessor Katharina (Kati) Doehring explains here why we’re hosting and promoting this free event supported by NZ Landcare Trust - Ngā Matapopore Whenua and Our Land and Water National Science Challenge. Karrakatta My name is Kathy During and I'm a freshwater ecologist and science communicator at the Course Front Institute. Today I'd like to talk to you about 3 reasons why the Freshwater Champion Awards are important. The first one is that they recognize that amazing Mahida catchment groups are doing across the Moto and celebrating the successes in improving freshwater ecosystem health. The 2nd is that they would share the lessons learned that these communities have experienced along their restoration journey and they can include successes and failures. And lastly. By showcasing the restoration stories they champion awards become a mechanism to encourage others to follow suit and become freshwater champions themselves. So on behalf of course run, I'd like to thank each and every one of you that are out there doing amazing work to restore our rivers, lakes, wetlands and aquifers. Kilda.
