This initiative highlights a critical issue that needs to be addressed. It's well-known that teachers in Florida are significantly underpaid and overworked, often earning salaries that don't match the cost of living in the areas they serve. A brief review of salaries in countries from which these teachers are recruited shows that their earnings, when converted to USD, are often $10,000 to $20,000 less than what our local teachers earn. Instead of improving the pay for our dedicated educators, we are opting to recruit from abroad, potentially fostering resentment among our local teachers. This could diminish their already slim hopes for better compensation. What are we truly achieving here, and at what cost to our current educational environment?
Polk County Schools Recruitment welcomed 35 international teachers from Jamaica, Philippines, India and Ghana. 🌎 During their first professional development - EduExchange- teacher connected with experienced exchange teachers and gained valuable insights into the expectations and culture of Polk County. Some of the most heartfelt educators I've ever met and they are incredibly excited to be here! Welcome to America and the best county - Polk County School Board! 🇺🇸

What I love about being at a British boarding school (many years ago). 10 reasons I could think of. 1. Breakthroughs are acknowledged and celebrated. You experience pain, achievements and rewards together. 2. Breaktime and afterschool hang outs down town together, still in your uniforms and become a well known group of students around town, (so always in our best behaviours). And if you're not in town, then you be having tea and cakes together in your dorms. 3. Not having to wake up early, or endure traffic and change of travel plans in the mornings. 4. Classrooms and lessons are in the same premises, short walking distance from each other. 5. Build life long friendships, appreciate different perspectives and point of view, celebrate diversity and exciting cultures and their programmes frequently. 6. Become resilient, and learn to 'own it', the responsible human beings earlier than expected as responsible for own life choices as parents aren't around. But also receive consequences as hard lessons because of your decisions and parents aren't around to sugar coat the reality of it. 7. Get better exam results, as you participate in extra after school lessons and extra revision slots (no ifs and no buts!). 8. Be better at time management, and following routine isn't such a nag. 9. Become independent, and those are life lessons to set you up for life. 10. Get dropped off and picked up by 'grandpa' driving a Jaguar XK8 as a result be the talk because of that british car that spoke of "class and distinction", and be known for being back in the building, looking to find you in your dormitory to hang out with immediate urgency because you were missed by your friends and teachers. Photo shown here, left side of what I took recently whilst visiting Cambridgeshire, shows the boarding school I attended 30 years ago, opened in 1702 and closed for good in 2017. Right side older archive photos, black and white taken in 1880. Public figures educated as a live in boarder: ● Baron Newton of Braintree, ● Tom Robinson -British singer and radio presenter, ● Edward Verall Lucas -famous writer and playwright, ● Matthew Evans - Member of House of Lords, ● Edward Bawden - WWII artist/painter, ● Ruth Barrett - Holocaust Survivor and educator. #boardingschool #britishboardingschool #jaguarxk8 #backtoschool

Are you or your employees preparing to enroll a student for the upcoming school year in Germany? As summer break draws to a close, many expats are in a rush to navigate the German school system. Our team at Local Worldwide Relocation is here to simplify the enrollment process for you. Check out our latest blog post for a comprehensive guide on how to get started. One of the real-life situations we address involves a family seeking a spot at a local Waldorf school. A year later, they are now enrolling their second child! Another family, with no prior German language skills, wanted their children to be well integrated into German life. We assisted in registering both kids in elementary school, arranging visits to local schools, and coordinating applications. Additionally, the children will participate in a school-sponsored integration course to strengthen their language skills. Let us help you ease the process of enrolling your child in a German school. Five things I learnt from the British Boarding Schools Network Workshop last weekend. 1. I need to start taking some photographs (Simon Jones, I may need help!) 2. The sector remains upbeat. We're in this together! Keep doing what you are doing Suzanne Rowse 3. Some people are amazing at what they do (looking at you Victoria McAllister, Melanie Gray, Morag Boles, John Burnett, Adina Hennah) 4. Some people are beyond amazing at what they do (take a bow Lisa Scott) 5. Some agents can bust some serious shapes (no mentions - what happens on the dancefloor stays on the dancefloor) 6. And most importantly, conversations we had focussed on education, on boarding, on children. No matter what they throw at us - Pandemics, Brexit, dodgy taxes - we are in this job because of what we believe in and because we believe in building big things out of small things, creating friendships and memories for life, co-operating, bringing people together and - however insignificant - trying to make the world a little bit better from time to time. As we've seen, it's all too easy to just destroy things. 7. I can't count... (Philip Gilchrist and Adrian Hallworth)

Read about the comparative experiences of two child life specialists working in Kuwait and Taiwan! Tzu Yun (Alice) Chiu, CCLS, MS and Maryam AlBahar, CCLS, HPS, MS met in graduate school and connected over their passion to take child life back home. They compare and contrast how child life is approached and practiced in their respective countries in the article "Global Connections: Kuwait and Taiwan’s Approach to Child Life," addressing language barriers, regional challenges to certification, and opportunities for future growth.
