Olympic level performance in hospitality? 🥇 Shared experience from experts in other sectors and industries can be hugely beneficial in driving progression and performance. There are excellent examples from International Olympic Committee – IOC cycling to World rugby where insights have been used to drive business and personal performance - think Dave Brailsford and Mclaren. At JW Lees Brewery I was lucky enough to meet and hear from the esteemed Olympic psychologist Steve Bull, who had a very positive impact on my personal development and how I worked with my marketing team. This week, my colleague, Elbha Purcell, took the expert view from another Olympic expert, the Technical Lead Dietician at the UK Sports Institute. 👇 And, of course there was much to learn. From my perspective, Nigel made me think more about the need for all of us to reduce ultra processed foods and move to real foods. Also, the benefits that are obtainable from technology, to improve food tracking, reassurance and accuracy; technology can provide valuable support. So how would we translate this into hospitality and food service? These are increasingly becoming high performance environments. Against a backdrop of high food costs, increasing labour costs and the need for healthier menus, technology can save time, improve accuracy and be used to improve the guest experience. More than that - when you want the best teams to compete at the highest level - technology can be used to take away some of the manual admin, freeing teams in food dev, ops and marketing to do what they do best; from my experience making happier teams and more productive teams. (I know a few chefs who would love to pan fry their laptop rather than start another Excel spreadsheet.) Enjoy watching the Olympics, this weekend it is truly inspiring to watch elite athletes from all walks of life giving their all, striving for their best, backed by incredible support teams.

An actual conversation with a colleague of mine ... Just because someone is a medical professional doesn't mean they know everything about everything. Sports Nutrition is one of those things. Sports Nutrition is not the same as nutrition for weight loss or nutrition for the general population. In sports nutrition: - carbs are your best friend (yes even sugar) - you need salty snacks and drinks - eating late might be a great idea - eating salads may not be a great idea If you work with athletes OR have a son/daughter who's an athlete, you'll want to check out my recent podcast episode with Amy Goodson where we unpack several sports nutrition hot topics. Search for Exam Room Nutrition on Apple or Spotify or comment 💪 below and I'll send you a link! #sportsnutrition #athletes #fuel #performance

Our customers are delighted! As we go into our third week of Meals, we have been overwhelmed with the response. It is great validation for the team to hear how this is a service many have been dreaming about. Your own personal chef, one day a week, at a price that is affordable. We've got clients signing up with all different nutritional goals, from health concerns, to body image, to just wanting to eat great tasting fresh food! One key area we have identified as being completely under supported is performance nutrition. There is so much expertise and advice out there for athletes and sports team, however when it comes to maintaining nutritional goals outside of the training facility, there are very few options that work! With Meals, we can tailor your meal plan to suit and work with nutritionists and performance specialists to support athletes looking for marginal gains. If you want to reach out about how to get Meals set up for your players/clients, you can email me > commercial@meals.co.uk #performancenutrition #nutrition #playernutrition #marginalgains

𝗘𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝗲 𝗔𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗺𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀 Yesterday, I was honored to give a #Nutrtional talk to a group of elite cricket players. My primary objective was to help them grasp the vital role of nutrition in their bodies and emphasize the significance of making informed dietary choices. Often, athletes receive instructions on what to eat, but lack understanding about the reasons behind those recommendations. This knowledge gap can lead to neglecting the diet aspect. During the talk, I covered several key points: ♤𝗢𝗳𝗳-𝗦𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗚𝗼𝗮𝗹𝘀: Focusing on recovery and preparation. 💡 ♤𝗠𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘂𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀: Explaining major food groups and their purposes. For instance, carbohydrates provide energy, but excessive intake can lead to unwanted weight gain. Whereas, protein is vital for muscle recovery, muscle building and overall performance. We also discussed the portion sizes of each food group. 💪🏼 ♤𝗔𝗻𝘁𝗶-𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗹𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝗱𝘀: Highlighting the importance of vegetables, fruits and omega-3 fatty acids in combating inflammation after exercise. 🥬 ♤𝗣𝗿𝗲-𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗼𝘂𝘁 & 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝘁-𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗦𝗻𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘀: Discussing optimal choices for fueling before and after training sessions. ♤𝗛𝘆𝗱𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Contrasting water with electrolyte drinks. While water is essential, electrolyte beverages are crucial during intense and prolonged workouts. 💧 ♤𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗶𝗽𝘀: Providing practical advice for preparing nutritious meals. 👩🍳 ♤𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Addressing the role of supplements in supporting athletic performance. It was an enlightening session and I’m glad to have contributed to their understanding of nutrition! 🏏 #Dietitian #SportsNutrition #Cricket #Womenscricket #healthy #snacks #Connect #Food #Health

About 6 to 7 years ago, I started researching and gathering information online, reading articles and studies. One of the greatest lessons I learned is that learning keeps us humble. The more we know, the more we realize there’s always more to explore. Here, look at a page from my notes. #nutrition #food #learneveryday #fitness #healthiswealth #womenshealth #knowledgeispower
